my parents missed out on the 80's and now my mom likes new age and my dad like's 70's and 60's (no problem with that) but they hate me for living the 80's now =D
they thought my ex who is glam was a girl the first time they saw him, then i had to show them a picture of Nikki Sixx back during Theatre of Pain ('cause that's what my ex looked like) and they thought Nikki was a girl too

my dad is responsible for my love of this music, as he was the one who downloaded Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood for rockband. My mom is more into the psychadelic stuff (Chaz Jenkel?) or stuff from today. My mom is ok with the music i love but if i were to ask her something about say, Ratt...she wouldn't really know much. ALTHOUGH, she said the first tape she bought was Van Halen. My mom and dad grew up in the 80's so they should know WAY more than i do, being 14. I actually know WAY more than them because i love to learn new things about the music. The MOST supportive people i have for this music are my grandpa and grandma. My grandpa is the same age as Mick Mars.

"My mother was a Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond fan so, needless to say, she didn't quite get it when I discovered KISS in '76 and started down the yellow brick road of glam rock. She figured I was going through a phase, and I'd outgrow it. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!!!
As a parent of a 16 year old now, my influence has got my daughter listening to Motley Crue, Warrant, Poison, Aerosmith. And lately she's been listening non-stop to Crashdiet's "Generation Wild" since I introduced it to her.
Hopefully, someday, when she has kids, she'll tell them about Grandpa's favorite band MOTLEY CRUE! "
- SIXX-Again

I got no dad around, but my mums pretty supportive! She digs all the music I play, which ranges from like, Anglo-Saxon Lyre rythms and Baroque Harpsichord stuff, to 'bass-from-outer-space' Psytrance, hahaha. Glam being my main focus though, as music goes, she likes it. We argue over Mott the Hoople lyrics all the time and then it ends up we're both wrong!

When I started dressing glam, she was really into it. Then as I got more glam and more glam, I began to attract looks, and she wasn't happy about that. But she got used to it and learned to ignore it like I did. Then I started dressing tigher and more effeminately, but she dug that. She was a punk in 80s, so she dressed pretty similar to me, so she helped out a lot to me!

Thennnn I started wearing makeup. She never stops me from doing anything, 'cos she knows she cant - I'm a fucking rebel child and as it pains and ashames me to admit it, I have a bit of a violent streak, even with her - so I was able to. But she was very screwed up about it - SHE doesn't even wear makeup! But it helped her 'cos she sells Avon! Now she accepts it and is totally cool about it though, she lets me wear full makeup and everything. She wont let me wear it infront of the grandparents though, but I know why. They already bully her for raising me the way she did. We rent from 'em, cheaply too, 'cos we cant afford no other place, so she cant really say 'He's my kid and I'll do what I like' and fuck off, so I just pretend I'm a normal kid as best I can, haha.

She'll let me know, honestly, if something gonna be 'too much', as well, which is really helpful.

Gonna talk to her about getting my ears pierced soon, haha.

So yeah. You know. No problems with it at all. She can really reccomend New Wave bands and all to me, as well - she got me into Gary Numan and Adam and the Ants, and all that.

My Dad brought me up on Kiss. He has every album on CD, had them all on Vinyl back then. He's seen them live various times, happily bought me and my older brother tickets to go see them this year for the first time (twice!). He's a huuge fan.
He saw Faster Pussycat and Enuff Z Nuff the other week.
He used to have long hair. He listened to Motley Crue, Quiet Riot and all the rest. He met Dee Snider on the High Street in town when he was lost ...
Not really glam, but my Uncle was friends with the original Venom.
I have a photo of him and my Uncle wearing Kiss makeup

... Even my Granny loves Kiss and has seen them live

My Mam brought me up on the Scorpions. She has all of their albums, had them all on Vinyl. I have them now
She was some sort of Punk Glam rocker.
She met Bon Jovi backstage at the bar once ...
She too has been to hundreds of concerts.
She showed me how to back comb my hair and helps with my clothing sometimes ^-^

I have a very musical family. Even if the old sods are grown up and not as glam as they used to be haha.

I found out a lot about Glam and Punk through my parents. I guess I do owe them a lot.

my mom listened to Bon Jovi,Aerosmith,Foreigner,Styx, and madonna,so she knows all about glam.she was really surprised when i got into glam.when i bought Def Lepp's Hysteria, and started singing Pour Some, my mom says,"Why are you singing that? dont u kno wat that song is about? its bad". see my mom doesnt like "dirty" stuff.which sucked growing up cuz we couldnt watch anything with bad language or sexual references, haha.but i listened to wat i wanted to listen to when i turned glam, cuz i was 17.i was gonna do wat i wanted to do.she got used to it tho,and eventually gave in,and has supported me since.my dad doesnt listen to music these days.which i dont get.he listens to sports radio.which is cool i guess, cuz i like sports too.but back in the day he listened to KC and the sunshine band,Lionel Richie, and REO Speedwagon.so yea, weird shit, haha.i actually like REO tho.but i just moved down to texas recently to stay with him for awhile to gather up money to live on my own,so its taking him a little while to get used to how into glam i am.my moms side of the family is really musical, and my dads side is sports oriented.so basically,2 dif. families, haha.its crazy

Of course my mom hated Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. She was the religious one in the family and tried hard for me keep me away from what she termed "Junk Music", she said it was like junk food, unfulfilling, bad for you, it may look good but it rots teeth. She said it was junk food for the ears and brain, but my dad snuck behind my mom's back and luckily played this stuff. My mom used to listen to Janet Jackson, Madonna, or whatever pop garbage that was on the radio. That to me was "junk music" and I cringed every time my mom played that stuff in the car. Me and my dad would be just be cringing at how horrible it was and then when we were alone we'd make fun of mom's lame music and talk about how any of our bands could slaughter the wimps mom listened too.

All through my childhood, up untill I was about 13, I didn't get any music exposure except what my dad listened to, which was alot of stuff like Depeche Mode, The Cure, King Crimson and U2 from what I can remember. From those I really took a liking to U2 and since I was like 9 my favorite band was U2. Well, once I got out of the bitchass private school I went to my whole life, and into public school, my whole world opened up to different music. But most of the new stuff didn't really do it for me. It wasn't untill one day when I was watching VH1 Classic at about 6 AM and Wild Side by Motley Crue came on that I found the right music for me. I was 13 then and for the rest of my life, now my dad hates all that stuff I listen to, and, get this, one time I tried to get my dad to listen to Gn'R and he says, I hate this guys voice, and the music behind it isn't good enough to make up for it. Now I can understand someone not liking Axl's voice, but c'mon! Slash's guitar playing dosn't make up for axl's voice? I just sat there and laughed at him. I live with my mom though, and she dosn't give me any trouble, but when my sister or brother yell at me to turn down the music, I just turn it up until I can't hear them anymore.

I can relate to you there my friend, my parents are the same way!But my dad is starting to lighten up about concerts and such, he said he'd let me go if we had the money..Poison, and Sebastian Bach are coming here to KY this Sunday but tickets are all sold out and we don't have the money right now...I'm trying to save up for Crue Fest though, I think my dad wants to go..Going with my dad sounds lame, but shit if I get to go I'm not complaining lol!My dad's pretty cool about stuff he's just kind of laid back, my mom on the other hand is pretty uptight, he says yes she says no [so then it's whatever my mom says goes lol]..My parents are homophobic aswell, so we're riding in the same boat in these situations hun, lol.

I got into this stuff because my dad was in a glam heavy metal band. My dad was the one who opened me up to music, he used to play me Motely Crue, Def Leppard, Guns and Roses, Rush, White Lion, Sweet, Slade and all that good stuff. I remember one of the first songs that got me into the music, "Girls, Girls, Girls" by the Crue. Being a horny teenager at the time that tune just penetrated my head and short circuited my brain, I thought it was the most genius song at the time! I started consuming every vinyl my dad had and I just became like a religious fanatic but for metal! I am glad I discovered this stuff and was raised with it, I often wonder about that when I hear some crap another person is listening too and thinking their parents very negelectful of their child's musical upbringing. Parents like that should be in jail, of course from what I am reading from this board the jails would be full of religious zealots and bigots. LOL. No wonder most kids listen to cRap nowadays, TV raises them and says cRap is the "tang".

I got into glam bands thanks to my dad ^-^ When I was younger he was all into Guns 'n' Roses, Skid Row, KISS, he said he liked a few Poison songs but he's not a big fan, he listened to alot of other Glam bands. He always talks about how many shows he went to as a kid, but they're like anti-show parents now lol.And he said Tesla was one of his favorite bands. My mom on the other hand she hates them, she's all into country..However she was a fan of Poison back in her day.My dad and I were watching something on VH1-Classic the other night about Twisted Sister, and under her breathe she mumbled, 'A bunch of fucking cross-dressers, trying to look like women.'Other than begin a Poison fan, she hated it.She was more into Vanilla Ice and Salt and Pepper[Peppa, or whatever], she said she had a crush on Ice back in the day..The other day I was talking about how sexy Axl was back in their day, and she said he was one of the ugliest guys she's seen, 'he looks like a women', WHAT?!Axl > Vanilla Ice.

I was too young to remember the 80's, but my mom always told me that the electric guitar was a horrible sounding instrument, and that rockstars were womanizers and druggies.

19 years later I have long hair, play guitar, I'm not a womanizer, and I wouldn't consider myself a druggie at all, even though some people think I am. My mom chilled out, she looks exactly like Sharon Osbourne, like the same haircut/color, and their faces look very similiar.
