If *I* was in a band (and I was the boss) I would stop what we were playing and make an announcement to "Knock it the fuck off".Too many people get hurt, mostly people who aren't even involved with it.

But I think half the blame goes to venues that still permit it.Ever notice that the soundboards have barriers, yet theres rarely a cage for the moshpit?Electrical equipment is worth more than people apparently.

stage diving or going in a mosh pit dosent have any appeal to me. it just detracts from the performance of the band

If its choreographed its okay.

Did anybody see the movie Fathers Day with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal?

I was in it.(I got only 6 days work on it but I made connections from it and met the guy who ended up being my agent, tho he left the business right after 9/11.)

Robin Williams was tossed in the crowd,& he did some surfing. There was a moshpit too.But it was all dance steps and practiced a LOT.They had a specific goup of people to do it,so nobody got hurt.

Me and a couple of friends went to a Black Metal/Death Metal/Glam Metal Festival (I know right? LOL), and the rules were all 'NO MOSHING', and no one did it. Which was cool. I dont Mosh or anything... I dont headbang either, actually.

Also, to Retroman- blood spat over you? Hehe, my friends' sister, at The Hole in the Sky concert in Norway, and Akrokoke... Or something. Were doing this flame-eater trick. I've seen them do it before, actually, my friend showed me a video, he's good at it, lol. But not this time. He choked up, and dropped the can of gasoline. Went all over this girl. And some people had lighters and stuff, haha, lighting cigarettes and all. They took her out and put her back stage, 'cause she'd explode.

She's now a personal friend to all the members of that band

Personally I wouldn't stage dive, lol. But I dont see it as stupid as Moshing or anything. It'd be cool if they did it like they do in the movies, were the guitarist from the band jumps onto the crowd mid-solo.

A year ago I was at a show to see Nine Inch Nails, and trying to be as close as possible to the stage but there was a stupid pit (slam pit).I was wearing a minidress. Not a top and a miniskirt.Well some jackass strong guy pushed me in the fracas, and a security guard trying to help me get out of it pulled me by both hands. Then people or one person in the crowd, yanked my dress hemline up to my NECK.Exposing my thonged backside.I saw flashes from the damn cellphone cameras. There wasn't anything I could do about it.I HAD gone to the show wearing a studded belt but security was confiscating all studded belts, made us chek them,OTHERWISE a belt woulda stopped the dress yanking somewhat.Okay my ass would still be exposed but.....would you believe when I related this tale on other rock forums I actually got dissed by others (chicks mostly) because I chose to wear a short hemline.

I don't wear pants.Especially not at shows.I go to shows alone,I don't bring a bodyguard (also known as a date).Blame the victim right.

Security should restrain peoples bad behaviour.Meaning no damn pits.No damn stagediving or surfing.People get kicked in the face.

What the fuck's wrong with people!!!!!!!

I've seen some crazy shit at gigs and festivals. I've done crowd surfing but not always had a choice in the matter as a group of meat heads at a London Motorhead gig once decided to throw me forward for the role and that's not the first time.

I remember being on the front row of a busy Cradle Of Filth gig and it rained goth girls for most of the show... yes I know - the tart I was sleeping with liked em!

One of the members from Slipknot jumped off the first floor balcony at a Wolverhampton show...

I've had blood spat at me from the frontman of Dimmu Borgir (Shagrath) and the kid next to me hosed down. You get to see a lot of different shit at festivals. These goth chicks are bad, bad, wicked

Don't even ask about Rockbitch and my ex girlfriend...

All I can say is that it's a great feeling coming off the stage after your own gig and shaking peoples hands.

I have never been into stage diving or any related activities at concerts. When I go to concerts, it is for the music, and not to play dare devil, or to look cool, although I do have friends who are into that stiff.

I try to do it every time I go to a show that permits it. Fuck I used to not care back awhile ago but now I am 10 years past 18 and I don't want to get sued/arrested. I love the rush of "will they catch me or not?" Its the adrenaline. There has been a couple of times I have ate floor but that possibility of danger really gets the blood running, kind of like car racing.

I think moshing/slam "dancing" is STUPID.It hurts others aroud the "pit" who justwannas watch the band and watch cute people

Stage diving also is,to me,stupid and dangerous.

If people wanna be adventurous, they should charm the panties offa some hotties.

As a related anecdote,I had an acquaintance who used to get parts in rock videos and do a bit of acting work and "extra" crap....he got cast in a punk rock video.

This guy did an impromptu stage dive.

(Stuff is normally choreographed and rehearsed on video shooots.).

Nobody caught the guy.He hit his head on concrete.

Theres fine print on our "vouchers" (how ya get paid at these things) that states,if you get injured they do a blood drug n alcohol test.

Long story short.Dude had pot and booze in his system.

Dude is now blacklisted.Workmens compensatiojn, plus most studios, do not like taking risks like that.It affects their ability to get financing and insurance.

IN MY OPINION.....concerts are for making LOVE not mischief!

A little history on moshing/stage diving...let me put my reading glasses on...lol. And correction there Admin..it never was a grunge thing...it all started back in the late 70's with punk. And in the 80's it was the expression at crossover & thrash metal shows. And in the 90's when grunge & flannel took over...their audience adopted it and it lost it's credability...cause from there it became the popular thing to do. Now you see it in tv commercials, disney movies...hell i even saw ppl moshin @ the snoop dogg show i was at last week....rock on.

What's all this bullshit about loose teeth and blood. Obviously written by someone who hasn't done it before but nevertheless, has an opinion.

If you saw School of Rock when Jack Black did a stage dive, hit the floor, got up, dusted himself off. Well, that's about the extent of it.

People couldn't really climb but stages that are more than 8' off the ground. It ain't a long way to fall and the injuries wouldn't be much more than a bruised pride!

Never had the urge to stage-dive, and somehow I doubt that I will anytime soon. To each their own though.

Just seems like an awfully risky thing to do, for only like a 2 second rush.

I really could not see myself moshing or stage diving, what if every was drunk and no one caught me? Yea I don't think I want to explain that to the ER doctor "Someone dared me", that would go over really nice I'm sure.

That makes a concert so much more special...blood and teeth on the floor.

I saw someone stage dive straight to the concrete floor. Dude stood up and there were 5 or 6 of his teeth on th ground and blood pouring out of his mouth. That convinced me never to try that!

I don't know why people do idiotic things like stage diving. I don't get it. I've watched movies where people have done that, and then someone comes to a thud on the floor in front of the stage. Oh what fun!

I absolutely hate stage diving and moshing. It is an insult to a band and to music. It's stupid, dangerous and disrespectful to your health and to those of others around.

There is no place for it in glam rock or metal. Why would you want to do it and miss out on the visual performance of the band?
