I agree that they are awesome and I am not at all ashamed to admit that we based the model of our 80's tribute show Ratt Poison on the Metal Skool concept.

By the way, Johnprunz, do you get out to see them often? I only saw them once when I was in LA last year.

I love The Darkness! I agree with GlamJam89 that their silliness is a good thing!
Also, to be honest, my friends and I play Singstar whenever there's a whole group of us and I always insist on doing a solo for "I Believe In A Thing Called Love"
It's great fun, only problem is that it's quite difficult to imitate Justin's voice if you're only a 2nd Soprano.

I can totally respect why you wouldn't enjoy the Darkness, but to be honest I think a lot of their charm comes from how freaking silly they are. You haven't lived properly until you've seen Justin Hawkins ride above a crowd on a life sized white tiger replica belting out guitar solos. Even if you don't like the voice, the riffs are good enough to want to listen to anyway. "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" is one of the first songs I tackled on my guitar.

Love Crashdiet. Got into them once I heard Mick Mars worked with them on a few songs for their new album, which I can't wait to get. Not exactly revolutionary, but they've got good stuff.

Another new band I haven't seen mentioned is We Are The Fury. The singer can sound just like Bowie on the slower songs, it's amazing. Their looks aren't all out glam, but it's definately there. But if you're looking for a metal sound, they aren't for you. Much more of a pop feel.

Fuck The Darkness. There has been a recent insurgence of new stuff thats pretty fucking good, I'll admit. But, c'mon...you can take a look and a listen to something and know immediately if its worth a shit. I've got it down to a science. I do want to check out this band Crashdiet though. Been hearing good things from reputable sources...

Personally, the only song Pearl Jam ever did that I like is "Better Man".
I also think Eddie Vedder is a great guy.
He has a lot of respect for older bands and classic rockers.
Glam bands still rule, though!

Starr76, you are very lucky to have seen such a great band in their formative years as a support band.

In regards to The Darkness, it's easy to write them off as a joke, but I think Justin's tongue in cheek attitude is what hit the nail right on the head with the world wide audience. Although he takes his music and vocals very seriously, the key to the whole thing is the notion that they take the piss out of themselves and their genre. Personally I think they were brilliant. They released 2 awesome albums with no filler cuts amongst them. Plus a whole bunch of equally killer b-sides, too

In case not already mentioned:

The name of the often misunderstood The Darkness is meant to be ironic of their lyrics and approach. And in response to nu-metal's then very dark output.

Hurricane Party are now known as Road Star due to Hurricane Katrina and political correctness.

Theres some amazing new bands out that definetly have a big glam influence. Loving Crashdiet, Vains of Jenna, Hardcore Superstar, Babylon Bombs, Negative and Private Line. The list could go on. Scandanavia seems to be where its all happening just now (and they seem to have all the hot guys too lol)

I HATE the darkness. Utter rubbish.

I do however have a fondness for Hardcore superstar, Backyard babies, babylon bombs and Gemeni five.

Plus, the bands are full of hot scandinavian men... yummy.
