I loooooved Velvet Goldmine. It annoyed me a little how much it had copied from real life stories, but I still loved it. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was such a babe. Hahaha.

And Ewan McGregor will always be one of my favourite actors.

Man I hate to post three times on this topic but this was too good to pass up. What about the lame box office bomb George Lucas wouldn't put to DVD because of how embarrassed he was by it? "Howard the Duck"! Howard was a record exec from another dimension that gets sucked into our world, and he was a talking duck! In it he strikes up a disturbing relationship with the lead singer of a hair metal band played by Lea Thompson. I forgot the name of the band but Lea was lip synching to a glam song and her band I think wasn't even playing their instruments.

Speaking of "Rock n' Roll Nightmare" it stars the 70's wrestler who went by the name of John Mikl Thor. Infact in the 70's him and a back up band did a cover of a Sweet on the "Merv Griffin Show". He then went on to do Glam/Power Metal in the 80's, his band name being of course Thor! The soundtrack is his band and his music! In the movie the band's name is Triton, along with their girlfriends they try to make music and love in a isolated farm house. But (Cue the spooky music) the place is haunted by demons from hell and they start to take over each member of the band, except for Thor of course who ends up having to joust it out with Satan himself. When I saw this film I laughed my ass off at how bad it was but it is still in my book a glam classic.

Two other God awful 80's b grade exploitation films "Rock n' Roll Nightmare" and "Hard Rock Zombies". What about "Wayne's World"? Does that count? Tia's band covers "Ballroom Blitz" though not as good as Sweet, Alice Cooper does "Feed My Frankenstein" and the soundtrack has Cinderella among other glam bands that had only one song ever. Not only that it had the same director as the "Downfall of Western Civilization Parts one and two (the metal one I saw with my dad when I was a kid).

Rocky Horror
Hedwig...which, I loved the story and the music, but it seems like it would be more fun to see the play. Then again, I haven't seen it years,a second watch might go over differently for me.
Velvet Goldmine was what turned me on to Roxy Music, who I was only vaguely familiar with before
Spinal Tap is a great Rock & Roll movie PERIOD....genres be damned!
Do concert films count? If so:
Ziggy Stardust& The Spiders From Mars:The Motion Picture
Marc Bolan:The Final Word is a good documentary about Bolan's whole career
Born 2 Boogie-not to be confused with Born To Boogie, this is Rolan Bolan's documentary about his exploration of Marc's career and the making of Born To Boogie.
I'm sure Born To Boogie is great, and one of these days I'll finally see it, but B2B is interesting too.

I vaguely remember hearing about Black Roses, but never saw it, and I remember when Trick Or Treat came out, but never saw it.
But in that Glam Metal vein:
The Decline Of Western Civilization Part 2 is chock full of Hair bands.
and The Dungeonmaster has a cameo of W.A.S.P. playing(Tormentor, I think).
I may have seen Dungeonmaster, but it doesn't stick out in my memory, so I don't know how good it is. I think I might have only heard *about* it.

"Some great ones, people. Keep 'em coming. You're right jjb, Point Break had some great tunes. I'd forgotten about that one.
Here's a couple more of my favourites. I sure love 80s horror films, and even more so when they're about demonic glam rock stars. I give you not one, but two films based on this superb concept...
Black Roses (1988 ):
"When the sleepy town of Mill Basin is invaded by a sleazy band of hard rockers, the self-righteous townspeople try to stop their concert series. Parents and teenagers are pitted against each other as the parent' frantic phobias about the band seem to override all common sense, Only high school teacher Matthew is keeping an open mind - and when the band finally overcome parental objections and perform in Mill basin, he is the only one who recognizes the music's sinister effect on the kids. Gradually, a town full of normal kids begins to turn bad. Bloodshed, riots and horrible mass murders assail defenseless Mill Basin. Matthew senses the band's influence is to blame. But how? Are they really something else - something unexpected - something evil?..."
Of course they are!! If Lordi didn't steal their ideas from GWAR, then it was definitely from Black Roses. The film is so bad it's almost good, and the soundtrack is smoking!! The demonic band is none other than King Kobra! Carmine Appice never looked more appealing.
Trick Or Treat (1986):
"Rock Horror! Blistering Sounds And Special FX in a hilarious tale nof Rock 'N' Roll gone bad. Eddie Weinbauer is a typical all-American teenager. At least he was until he fell under the evil spell of rock music. Now he's obsessed with his superstar idol Sammi Curr and as Halloween approaches, Eddie begins to realise this isn't only rock 'n' roll... it's life or death."
This one's a classic. featuring guest appearances by both Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne, and a blistering soundtrack performed by Fastway. If you haven't seen it, when would now be a good time? "
- glammetalmonster

Those movies sound awesome. Definately gonna check 'em out.

Here's one (just a reference)-
Donnie Darko is set in 1988 and in the party scene they play almost a minute of Pantera's 'Proud To Be Loud'.

Not a movie, but during an episode of Scrubs, Carla and Ted sing a rendition of Poison's talk dirty to me. Pretty funny scene:

I don't have a link for this one, but I remember an epiode of The Simpsons where a band play a New Year's gig, quite unable to remember whether they're Ratt, Cinderella or Quiet Riot, lol!

And I LOVE Trick or Treat, Fastway are excellent, but I've never been able to find the soundtrack or any albums, just a couple of tracks on compilations...

I just watched Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time last week, I've seen it five more times since, haha. It's got such an amazing soundtrack. Also rented Hedwig and the Angry Inch on the recomendation of a guy at the video store, it was pretty cool. Really, really weird, though. Only watched it once, though.
