I just first, think i look good/cool. Second, i think it says something about me on the inside, i am a progressive person, i don't think men should look and act like this, women should look and act like this. I am a bit feminine.

I don't wear make up either. In fact I have been called "Elvis from Hell". I wear my hair greased back into a duck tail, with a pompadour, I have side burns, I wear earrings, studded wrist bands, band shirts, ripped acid washed jeans, a long chain, a studded belt and a bullet belt, motorcycle boots or my snake skin boots, a leather jacket and my denim vest covered with band patches if its too hot. I look like a heavy metal dude, but I do hang out with guys who wear the make up, spandex, big hair etc. Don't bother me at all, the football players from the local college hate it and its not common to hear "Faggots!" shouted out of "pimp mobiles" with that noise they call music coming out of speakers that cost more than their car is worth. I really wouldn't mind wearing make up but it just takes too damn long to put on and too much trouble. I've seen my ex girlfriends administer it and it looks like a pain in the ass!

I honestly don't know why they do it. I mean, if you're in a band and playing a gig then yeah go ahead and wear make-up for the live performance, but other than that I think its just weird. I personally don't wear make-up, never will either. But one of the things about being Glam is being unique, if you wanna wear make-up go ahead.

Glam musicians/fans(male)wear/wore it for one main reason in my opinion: TO GET ATTENTION.

All the major glam bands are known for their look. KISS to Crue, Poison to Twisted Sister. They all could've been 'just another rock band', but they put on the makeup(to varying levels & extremities) and - poof! - they got ten times more attention.

The same goes for the male fans of glam - they emulated the musicians to get attention from other fans(namely the chicks!). If the girls couldn't get to Vince Neil or Bret Michaels...they would usually settle for the guy in the audience that dressed just like them.(Hell, Rap is the big thing these days -- and that's why we have so many bozos wearing the baggy pants, grills & 'bling'. They want to get the same attention their idols do.)

**I did always find it hilarious that all the 'straight' chest-beating, alpha-males that were into Metallica, Anthrax & Maiden and HATED all the 'gay L.A. metal bands' were moshing in a pit with a mass of sweaty dudes...while the 'gay' glam fans were busy rocking out with their chicks(during & after the shows)!

I'm sure Metallica & Anthrax had their fair share of groupies...But I guarantee you it wasn't nearly as many as KISS, Motley Crue, Poison or Ratt... All those thrashers were/are ugly misfits -- angry & bitter 'cause they couldn't get any attention(esp. female attention).

Yea jack,I also believe every guy has his reason.I do it not becuz I want to put on makeup, but becuz I feel like I have to.growing up doing theatre,ur told to do it,so u do it.then u want to be in a glam band, then u do it.I do it more for the culture and history than anything.so when people ask me,"why in the hell do u want to look like a girl?" I just say,"well,I don't want to.I have to.its part of the costume.part of the act." Then I think that's why I haven't gotten much shit about being glam, like most of the people out there.cuz I've actually taken the time,(like 20 minutes) and explained to people what I want to do,which is to bring back the one, most important, genre ever, where it was all about drinking, fucking, partying, smoking, and playing rock and roll.and most of the time,I get,"Hell yea, man!" Haha.so yea,for me,I look at makeup as part of the costume.and I usually refer everything to the stage like a theatre when I explain to people.they get it more then.

I've asked myself this.
Personally, I like how feminine I look in it, and that the chicks love it. Plus I get the whole ostrogen (or whatever) charged excitment over makeup and hair products, hahaa.

And, its very taboo, its 'wrong', and I like that.

I guess every guy has his own reason!

I am not denigrating it at all but why do Glam guys wear make up? I know it started in the 70's with Bowie, T Rex, Slade and all those guys to continue with Poison, Ratt etc. In the doc "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" the film make flies to LA to discuss the hair metal scene on the Sunset strip with Vince Neil. I guess the make up drove the girls crazy but as Dee Snider said there is something weird about a majority male audience watching men in make up in tight spandex with no underwear on. Whats your take? Why did/do they still do it? Here is this segment on Hair Metal in the above mentioned doc DO WATCH this it will enlighten you. The whole thing is excellent and is a must see for any metal fan, its all up on youtube but this is just the hair metal section.
