This is just my opinion and it maybe mean but I don't care. All musical tastes and opinions are subjective, I think rap sucks, most of the people I know who listen to it cop a attitude, try to be something their not and they live in my neighborhood. They should try living in Van Nuys like I did for four years and they would know what a real ghetto is. I don't mind if people like the music, its just the A hole territory that comes with it. I don't go up to Wiggers and tell them their stupid and their music is infant BS. Go ahead and listen but where I draw the lines is personal attacks and insults hurled not only at me but others who don't dress or listen to what they do. I see this alot with Wigs. I know some cool Wigs but only some, I tried to listen to rap, I really did but I just couldn't get into it. Not my cup of tea. I think it just plain sucks and I don't think it should be called music. Its just my opinion but they did a scientific study to see if it was true that plants grew faster when classical music was played. It turned out the plants grew slower when classical was played, then they played rap and the plants grew even slower! Guess what? They played Metal and the study concluded the plants grew at a faster rate when Metal was played. Nuff said.

I don't blame you guys, I can't stand it when the Hair metal scene gets bashed all the time and the thing that makes it worse is that they get bashed on their own shows like Heavy The Story Of Metal. I mean I start screaming at the TV when Kerry King from Slayer said that Glam stands for gay L.A Metal. I wanted to fucking kill that guy. I really hope that the people who bash Glam die a very very slow and painful death.

Exactly... I agree with what you were all saying.
I've always agreed with the expression, "It takes a real man to wear pink, tight pants, makeup, etc." We live in this society with cookie cut gender roles. We've only recently started to bend those gender roles. This whole "guys who wear makeup are gay" thing, really pisses me off!

Whenever I wear my Cinderella shirt, I usually get some morons that go up to me and say, "Are the guys on your shirt fags?! They look just like chicks! That must be why they're called Cinderella! They should be sued for copyright infringement!" And isn't that just the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard?!

People these days just don't seem to understand glam. It does NOT necessarily mean a guy is gay if he chooses to dress fashionably, do his hair nicely, and wear makeup. I mean, WHY SHOULDN'T guys do that? Us girls spend hours making ourselves up. It's not fair that some guys don't care at ALL about their appearance, yet they expect to get these really hot doller up chicks? YEAH RIGHT... that's why I prefer glam guys. My boyfriend gets highlights in his hair, has a REALLY great sense of style, and he wears almost as much makeup as me. (But not quite...hehe.) It's nice to have a guy that actually cares about his appearance instead of these cocky slobs that just wake up and go out looking like hobos. Also, what girl wouldn't want a guy that she could do her makeup and go shopping with?! It doesn't automatically make him gay...

Personally, I think all these "macho" dudes out there... the football players and whatnot, are secretly really insecure. Notice how they get SO offended when someone calls them gay... and they throw around the word "fag" all the time. I think real, strong men aren't afraid to put on a pair of skin tight pants, colorful clothing, makeup, have long hair, etc. Because I have a lot of glam guy friends and when people call them gay, they're just like "Haha yeah ok... whatever... fuck off." They're not like "NO I'M NOT GAY OMG I HATE FAGS I AM NOT GAY I AM NOT GAY!"

Who even knows if glam has anything to do with sexual identity? You should just dress and look how you want to without the fear of being rejected by others. The glam style is a way of being from everyone else, and being less mainstream. The only reason glam people get so much shit for looking that way is because of these strict gender roles in our society. I mean, I'm a girl, and I think I possess some male traits. I have been told my personality is more masculine... my appearance is definitely not masculine, but some say my personality is when it comes to dating and such. I also like beer, cars, graphic design... I like to play football, and I like to play guitar. However, I also enjoy spending hours with my makeup, going shopping, and saving 800 pictures of Axl Rose to my photobucket. It's just so stupid... all these gender roles... people should be whoever they want to be. As long as you know your sexual orientation... who really gives a fuck!

I also hate how glam people seem to get bashed even MORE than "emo / scene " people. The same could be easily said for them... it's just ridiculous, people just don't understand glam if they are not part of the scene.

Razzle didn't do anything to deserve death. It was just a freak accidnet caused by Vince Neal dribing drunk. I can't think of anyone in the music industry who "deserves" to die. It is always a great loss when we lose someone. Tell your friend to go Fuck Off! Then ask him if he would still feel the same way if it had been someone he was close to. -- Mama Bear

Okay, as a classical musician, a music major in college, a dj in the 80's, and a metal head for years, I guess that my comment would have to be this: Rap was invented long before metal was. In the US, it was called square dancing. That "rap" just didn't trash everything. My grandmother raised me. Listened to old country music. The first time she got in the car and I had "glam" playing she rocked out with it and turned up the volume. I was raised to give anything a chance, you never know you might like it. My 5 year old runs around the house randomly singing old Warrant tunes, because that is who I listen to the most. (They covered an entire wall of my dorm room in college.) And, yes, we do deserve some of the crap we get. Every generation/genre does. I like going to drag shows and sew for several female illusionists. They ask me one day why I got into it. I told them that in my teen years all I did was listen to music made by guys who wore more makeup than most of the drag queens I know. Hell, Brett Michaels still does! There is nothing wrong with it. I still remember my first pair of ragged out jeans, how pissed my grandma got when I would tease my bangs up almost 6 inches high, and every detail of the first concert I went to. But, if I hadn't grown up enjoying the rebellion (and that is part of what it was) it might freak me out just a bit. My best friend and her husband dress goth, but they both appreciate the same music I do. They just grew up 10 years later and for them, glam was something they experienced before they hit double digits. There is a lot of "music" that I don't care for, but I don't have any right to trash it or criticize it or try to prevent people from listening to it than Tipper Gore had with the PMRC back in the day. There is nothing wrong with being different or your own person. Live and let live. If the others can't handle it then "Live and Let Die"!

Well, Frank Zappa made plenty of great music in the '80s by typing into a Synclavier, so you don't have to play "real instruments" and it is "actual music"--just actual music you don't like, just like your friends don't like your "actual music". Some 80-year-old devotee of, say, George Gershwin would probably trash all of us, emo, glam, and rap alike, as being "not real music"--and I know why he'd do it, too. And he wouldn't necessarily be wrong. So much of it is just a matter of personal taste.

It's always easy to bash really "colorful" things; it's fairly easy to make mistakes doing glam, and as such it's easy to ridicule, especially when the look is so over-the-top and the music is usually so straightforward, even simplistic, and not very original either. When that happens, it seems to many people as if the band's more interested in looking cool than in the actual music. So bashing glam quickly became a way of announcing a "proper" sense of priorities. Listener X bashes spandex posers who don't care about music, Listener X dresses down a lot more, therefore Listener X knows What's Really Important. It's the same reason people dress down these days at the gym; do a Google search for "thong leotards" and you'll mostly get magazine articles throwing in disparaging references as a way of establishing that Things Aren't Really Like That Anymore, in the same way that I've been reading articles on Rush for about half of my life that talk about how Geddy Lee has Toned Down His Banshee Wail or something, as if it had only recently happened. But deep down, I think lots of people have at least some respect for glam-rockers simply for doing something so socially risky.

True, most punks hate Nazis. (OTOH, most of them hate hippies, too, for much the same reasons Nazis hate them.) I guess it depends on what kind of punks you're talking about.) But when Nazis wanna rock, they play punk. (Or else they play Nordic black metal. OTOH, I think that probably died down a bit when all the black-metal-heads realized the REAL Nazis would've made 'em get a haircut...)

Glam doodz can have more girls than everyone else and still be gay, y'know. (DISCLAIMER: I'm bi, and it would please me no end to know that there were some actual GLB glammers out there--or else I'd be more disappointed than ever thinking I could've had it back in the day and I missed it...) (There do seem to be some "transgendered" glamsters out there, but not that many.)

I agree it's really mostly metal purists bashing glam (What hath Metallica wrought?), or at least it was when there were still enough glammers for people to notice them. Someone once told me that metal purists probably would've respected glam more if they'd stuck to their guns when thrash came along instead of toning it down (again, solving the wrong problem).

"We needed to do something about it" around 1984; this genre's been "ended" for about 15 years now--that's long enough for a grade-school kid to graduate from college and be all set up as an adult. It's only the postmodern condition that keeps us from being totally yesterday's people. And what glam needed to do isn't what it did--and so we end up here.

yea dude...same exact feelings...like the grammy's??? bullshit....i swear the music scene today is horrible....but what really gets me is that emo shit...bunch a teary-eyed sick little bastards....people criticize it because they dont understand the type of music....(this is much brought on by the overabundance of homophobes in this country)....sickening really but i feel that we're better off than people like that anyway...lol

"i get so sick douchebags bashing this genre. most of them are usually fans of rap and new age. it really pisses me off. people just don't understand the awesomeness of this genre.
does anyone have the same feelings about this subject as me?"
- vulgardisplayofglam

That about sums it up ...every once in a while I'll see somebody from high school and we'll chat about this and that; the subject of music always comes up and say with conviction that I still have my Ratt - out of the cellar, in my CD player, or I was just jamming to some Look what the cat dragged in, the other day. They will sometimes give me some strange looks and Im like what ?? We rocked to this stuff back in the day and it's just as good now as it was then!

But if anyone says glam's gay, my retort would prolly be something like: Fuck, they got more girls than you could ever dream of... or: Sixx'd kick your arse. I have absolutely no shame about defending my heroes!"
- Tara

I personally don't give a fuck if people don't like the music I do. I guess it's lucky that most of my friends tastes seems to generally overlap over the area called Metal.

And fuck me, I like some rap. And that shit that passes for "RnB' these days. My favourite song off the radio last year would probably be Umbrella! They call me the "Genre Spanner" I love punk rock, and pop music and indie... My latest acquisition was a Bonzo Dog Band comp. I can't be doing with jazz, but I can see it's appeal back in the day. I don't mind the odd eemo tune, it's really just poppy indie punk fusion. Actually, I kinda feel sorry for the emo kids, I mean back in my days, the 90s, it was bad enough, now it's all that and cellphones. Thses kids have nothing to call their own, so they steal from all the genres. I find them cute as with their skinny jeans (we called them 'drainpipes', kids! ) and their floppy haircuts. Tch, kids these days...

It's mostly metal elitists that bash glam in order to appear as if they're so "tr00" and "kvlt". They think it's too "gay" to be considered metal.

I love early Punk like the Pistols and the Ramones.

As for the crap glam gets, I give back exactly whatI get and I am very blunt and outspoken when it comes to debating other styles such as other forms of rock and metal, Rap, Emo etc...bring it on, I say!
