It's high time I spelled out why this site exists.

Actually, it's on the site homepage and reads something like this....

GlamRock.com is the biggest and the best online resource for everything you want to know about the glam music scene. Whether you are into 70's Glam Rock or 80s Glam Metal / Hair Metal, we have it all.

Let me take this opportunity to explain this further as there has in the past, been confusion surrounding this mission and I would like to make it clearer.

An example of gross misunderstanding of this is listing an unknown band in the Glam Band Discussion Forum, who played a debut gig in 1988 and a week later, they broke up. I mean, who the fuck wants to know about this bunch of losers? Well apparently, one of the original members thinks that YOU DO!

So, as a starting point. To qualify for recognition on GlamRock.com, a band needs to have been signed to a global record company and have released at least one album.

True Glam Rock bands formed during the years 1971 to 1980 and true Glam Metal bands formed during the years 1981 to 1991 . As far as GlamRock.com are concerned, true glam ended the day Nevermind was released. And despite popular folklore, grunge didn't kill Glam!. It was more a case of out with the old and in with the new.

Since 1991, bands calling themselves glam are just rock bands. This includes both the new start ups and the original glam bands!

Take Motley Crue for example. They pioneered glam metal but since the Corabi days (1992) and to today, can you call them glam? I don't think so.

However, the fans still see them as glam so we facilitate the discussions. What we do not accept as glam are modern fusions of glam. Examples are glampop (eg. Lady Gaga) and glampunk. We have a miscellaneous category forum where you are free to discuss them as well as any other music which is not glam.
