Can't decide. Billy Gibbons and ZZ have released awesome music and so has George. Great kick ass stuff, I don't care what the fuck genre it falls under, I have no prejudice against the music if it is good! Some people need to get off their hipster high horses, glam isn't everything though it is alot. Sorry if I offended anybody, don't take it the wrong way. Both Top and Destroyers put out awesome kick ass jams! End of story.

"okay you can beat me up later. sorry I mislabeled their music."
- Syndrome477

Hope you didn't think I was beating you up I was just joining in on the flow of where the conversation had gone.

Going back to your initial post, I agree 100% with you, George Thorogood is one helluva guitar player! I've seen (and enjoyed) some of his performances on tv over the years ( decades, actually). He gives 110%, sweating like a boxer, working that slide. Blue collar rock at it's finest!

OK folks, the southern rock thing has been done to death. Let's get back on the subject of the choices otherwise this thread is going to get closed.

I also consider both bands as rock/blues. I really don't consider either one a "southern rock" band. Besides, George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers are, well, from Delaware

I think he considers himself a blues guy too. I don't know. It's rock either way with ZZ Top. Lonesome George just has an edge...Lynyrd Skynyrd was the best. Ronnie Van Zant worked the stage. Barefoot. Loved it.

I consider Thorogood to be a blues man....never really thought of him as a southern rocker.I don't personally think of "rock" when I think of him.

What do I know. He's alright. Not much in the way if image tho.And I don't care for the cigar sticking out of his mouth.

Yeah, I usually think of Skynyrd, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Alabama, but I can see how ZZ and GT fit.

But if one got really anal about geography and music, REM, the B-52s, DRI, Ministry, and the Butthole Surfers should be in there too, since they're all rock bands from the South.
Well, ok, actually I've been told that Texas isn't technically "The South"...but it's further South than I am.
...and Ministry moved to Texas from Chicago, so they're not even "from" Texas...
...damn beer, I'm really overthinking this..

But hey, really, all the original rock bands were from the South, so in a way "Southern Rock" is a redundancy!

I voted for George.

He ain't exactly top of my mind when someone asks me to name a good guitar player but I did see him live in 1982 and he did put in a great show.

By the way, when someone says Southern Rock, Lynrd Skynrd (or however the hell you spell it) comes to mind but never George or ZZ Top?
