Dude, I think I have heard Jackyl before, so your dad was in that band? My dad didn't make it big but he has alot of cool stories of all the bands and people he met in the 80's. I was just a kid so I didn't tour with him too much only sometimes, mainly stayed home with my mom. But I did get to see LA Guns where my dad opened for them at the Roxy in 1986! I was only six years old! Danzig, Ratt and Testament are awesome! I love glam but I also love classic rock, I was raised on all that stuff. My mom was a real religious type and she didn't really approve of my dad's career or the music we played and listened too. I know the whole drug thing with my dad, that is the reason why I avoided much of that stuff. In junior high and high school I was stoned 24/7, but when I got older I stopped. My dad was in a rock band in the 80's so of course there was liquor and drugs all over the place, you know what? It just fucking sucks, that shit is just plain stupid and I can't believe I almost made the same mistakes as my parents. Their both fine now and my dad works as a producer for a studio in LA called Sands Entertainment, he helps bands and stuff, as well as being a camera man in the Warner Bros. studios so he is doing fine. Keeping on the subject ever heard of the band Slaughter? Their OK.

Yeah my dad turned me on to alot of bands. He tried to make it musically but he was fired from a band called Jackyl when they we're a garage band. They made it big but he on the other hand is like me, he's stuck with a bullshit cover band. He turned me on to Danzig, Testament, Ratt, Judas Priest and a ton more. My mom was a metalhead in the 80s an so was my dad. My step father turned me on to Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Guns n Roses and Led Zepplin. See, he was one of those people that survived Woodstock. So he was basically a hippie pot head and my dad is just a drug addict period.

Oh no not at all! In fact I think the same thing about myself, I have a tendency to annoy people, always have. I pretty much gave up on trying not to because I end up being worse. Yeah alot of bands people aren't exposed to I found out mainly through my dad, his band mates and my cousin. My dad played records theat were really off the wall shit, and his band members were the same, we had one guy in the band, the bassist whose friend had a record store that imported foreign vinyl so I knew of some of these foreign metal bands before alot of Americans got hep to them. My pops was the one who played me Dangerous Toys, Junkyard, Bango Tango, Shark Island, Mother Love Bone etc. I am with you there, I was raised on all that stuff.

Yeah really, some of the bands I listen to such as Dangerous Toys, Junkyard, Manowar, and Bang Tango; not many people that I've talked to have really heard of them or like them for that matter. Wich is why to me it is a rareity to find a true metalhead such as yourself who has the same musical tastes as me. Oh yeah by the way I hope I don't annoy you, I seem to have a tendency to annoy people.

Yeah, Hangmen do sound alot like Junkyard, but their songs are pretty cool! Rotten Sunday I have loud in my car every Sunday I take a drive. Mother Love Bone is awesome, they came on the tail end of glam, Crown of Thorns is a pretty good song, my favorite is Stardog Champion. That song kicks major ass!

Yeah I totally can't wait to hear Love/Hate. My friend hasn't e mailed them to me yet but I am actually thinking about just downloading them off this site. It is a pay site but its only like a buck 50 which isn't too bad, some other bands I came across that were pretty wicked were The Hangmen but be careful to look for the 80's band not the psycobilly band by the same name, Junkyard, Steelheart, Dangerous Toys definitely check out their self titled, it is one of my favorite records in my collection and you won't be disappointed, Tigertailz, Lizzy Borden, Ugly Kid Joe's album "America's Least Wanted", Living Colour's Vivid, King's X, and Mother Love Bone's self titled, you won't be let down by any of these bands, some you won't be able to find on music sites, but there is probably mp3 sites that you can download off of, just don't do anything illegal. wink, wink.

Yeah I don't see mentioned the Cult, Living Colour or Ugly Kid Joe! All good bands, there are a plethora of minor glam bands that were great or only released one album. Coney Hatch, a Canadian hair metal outfit released a pretty cool album that never really saw the light in the States, I don't know if it saw the light in Britain. Or Krokus? Black n' Blue? Bango Tango? All great acts. I added three threads for these hardly known bands: The Cult, Living Colour, and Ugly Kid Joe. Broncotwerp posted a Living Colour and Cult video if you haven't experienced either band yet. I would post a Ugly Kid Joe video but my computer takes way to long and acts funny whenever I try to upload or download videos.

Pop Music
POP = Popular
Don't overthink it. Calling something pop can only be done after the event. The event being achieving popularity.
There's ain't no structure to it nor can it be predicted. It happens and after it does and it is popular, can then the Pop prefix be applied."- glamster

Actually no..(but also yes)
Pop(ular) music has been around for over a hundred years now.
The structure of a Pop song has been evident almost as long. Structuring a song in that way is what makes the difference between a Pop song, like Girls Girls Girls or Love Me Do, and a non Pop song like In The Beginning or Revolution #9.
"verse/verse/chorus/verse"="A/A/B/A"= a "I/IV/V" chord progession...that's a Pop song, because the structure of the song is made in a way that is accessible to the widest audience possible.
Most Rock(all genres), Country, and modern Blues has a Pop structure.
Going beyond that, many 80s Metal bands(Glam/Hair and not) worked hard to sound "aggressive" but used a lot of production to make themselves "accessible", smoothing out the rough edges, and covering up dissonance(missing that dissonance can lend a bit of "edge")in the guitar sound.
Why? Because they wanted to be "radio friendly" and POPular.
"Pop" can be as much or more about the goal of the musician(or the writer) as the end result.

I think we'd both be hard pressed to think of any Pop songs from the last 90 years that didn't follow this structure.
