On the one hand I would love to see all these old and new bands gain the success they so deserve. I'd like to see kick ass melodic music come back again, on the other hand I like that it is kind of underground and we have a community. The community gets destroyed when something becomes a "fad" something these teeny bopping ADD Disney fans practice at a seconds notice. Replace the bubble gum sound for a split Pop Culture second and forget what fad it was you practiced a second ago. The community and music becomes a little diluted. Don't get me wrong anything is better then these baggy pants, athletic shirted, blinged out posers and Barbi Doll factory produced sugary plastic Disney Crap dolls. So overall yes I would love to see glam come back again, if the majority treats it as a fad the true believers will stay with it and at least we would've had the satisfaction that real Rock n' Roll woke up from it's drunken stupor. I see it coming alive again with the success of "Rock of Love", the Motely Crue books, a rumored movie on Motely Crue and the success of Rocklahoma, it looks like it is a big possibility that it is coming back. People are starting to get back to the 80's styles and fashions again.

Got the chance to check out a few "new" bandz in the scene this weekend. If a revival is going to happen, theze guyz can do it. I will have a list up of all of them, but if you are in a hurry, you might check out Alias. They were awesome. Also, try the band Karnevil. They are a bit on the thrashy side, but their guitarist -- Dario Lorino is fucking glamtastic! Hez got the look, the style, and the attitude. And iz it going to make a revival? Why not ask some of the 30,000 to 50,000 people who stayed out in the rain and 65 mph windz at Rocklahoma while Trixter stayed on stage playing trough it all?

Well, there are already new bands like that out there; are you not aware of them?

Really, it's not that the music everyone's complaining about is "depressing"--or at least being depressing isn't the real problem; it's that it's cookie-cutter music that doesn't contain any of the "pointers", I guess, that normally make "cookie-cutter" register in people's minds. Apparently the industry has successfully implemented a new set of pointers that still make people think "real" and "honest" and "gutsy" and "heartfelt." So people don't think of it as cookie-cutter music, and they keep listening to it, and nothing changes. The rock scene is even more sclerotic now than it was in the late classic-rock era, and that's saying something.

Yeah man I agree it's only gonna be a matter of time before people get tired of this depressing shit that is getting air play now a days. I know for sure that glam will make a come back because glams' die hard fans are starting their own Glam bands and it's only a matter of time before they get discoverd. To be honest I think that we need a new band that's like Motley Crue or Twisted Sister to come out of the wood work and change the music seen.

If it were to happen at all, I think a glam revival (or something very similar to it) will happen by the next decade. I mean think about it. Each decade had it's own paticular style of rock music that was very popular for that paticular decade.

50s - Rock n Roll (Pretty fun and upbeat yet has it's fair share of cheese.)
60s - British/Hippie Rock (Pretty much laid back rock music.)
70s - Bluesy rock/hard rock (Similar to the last deacde's music, this is pretty much laid back music though focused paticualry on depression, angst, and drug use though it always had exceptions.)
80s - Glam Metal (Pretty much a return to fun an upbeat times. Lets face it, glam is pretty much a mix of rock and roll and heavy metal, with more riffs and plenty more distortion and balls than rock n roll. Many glam metal bands were influenced by 50s style rock n roll. Motley Crue even did a cover of that Jailhouse Rock song which was popular during the 50s. Another thing that is similar is that chicks back in the 50s really digged rock n roll singers like Elvis. Then, back in the 80s, I'm sure we all know how the ladies reacted whenever they seen the likes of Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Crue, Van Halen, etc. )
90s - Alternative Rock/Grunge - (Pretty much a return to more laid back music. Most of this music was influenced by the bluesy hard rock bands of the 70s, especially lyric wise.
00s - Pop Punk/Emo/Screamo - Often shares a lot of the traits of alternative rock. Paticulary depression, suicide and angst. A lot of this music tends to be pretty whiny which appeals to all of the Hot Topic kiddies.)

Think aobut it, people are eventually going to get sick of all of this whiny crappy music, and will eventually want to hear something more fun and upbeat again. I have a strange feeling that a glam revival or something similar may happen sometime in the 2010s. Even if it's not glam metal all over again, chances are it's going to be something thta's very fun to listen to and rejects the angst and depressive themes of the emo scene. It's only a matter of time. >=D

The finnish band, Lordi is getting very big in America, and while their not exactly glam, they do have an 80s glam sound. About the only thing that separates them from glam metal is their vocalist who has a much ballsier voice anyway. If any band could bring back 80s glam though, then this band certainly can.

Hey, I'm workin' on it!

It might not be quite as hard and heavy as you're looking for, drawing as it does from post-Beatles pop-rock and certain strains of '70s prog-rock, but I suppose you might consider it a bit original at least. (We've already had Enuff Z'nuff, so we already know the Beatlesque strain will fit.) My goal (I set a goal??) is to have a half-dozen or so songs recorded by the end of the year, including a nine-minute tune I mostly wrote on 12-string acoustic that has repeated material, but not anything readily identifiable as A VERSE or A CHORUS or whatever. (Lyrics will be a pain--I think in terms of music first, and I don't often think about things that strike me as good material for a song lyric.) It won't sound too much like Glam As We Know It, but it will sound like music that Beautiful Rock Doodz (Rock Elves?) could play.

A revival by it's nature will be short lived. The current resurgence of rock/metal in general is nostalgia. How many of the headlining acts of the major rock festival were formed after the 80's?
As for the latest batch of glam bands, name one that doesn't want to be Motley Crue, or Guns n Roses?
It pains me to say it, because I love Glam, and Rock chicks make life worth living ( ) but where's the originality?
