Got another one for you and it is a doozy of one too. "Hollywood Rocks: The Ultimate Guide to 1980's Hollywood, California Rock n Roll Music Scene". Its awesome, the book is big with lots of pictures and fliers put up by the bands of the era including some press clippings and interviews with members of the bands showcased. This is a must for any hair, glam, punk and heavy metal fan, it also showcases the power metal bands of LA too. Also there is a 4 disc box set of CD's as a companion piece to the book demos, re mastered recordings etc. of bands mentioned in the book. Some of the demos and recordings have bad sound quality because they were taken off of extremely rare singles or tapes. Not only that I got a Hollywood Rocks button included in the CD set for my leather jacket and there is a big booklet in the set explaining each song and band. Incredible and beautifully packaged. Don't leave home without it!

Another book that looks interesting that I haven't read or looked at is "Reckless Road: Guns n' Roses and the Making of Appetite for Destruction" by Marc Canter friend of Saul Hudson otherwise known as Slash. A amateur photographer, he documented in picture the start of the Guns and the recording of their first album. Will buy the book when I have got money.

I must reccomend Lemmy's White Line Fever, guys. Fucking amazing. Good look into 1960s and 1970s Psychadellic/Space rock scene, and that guys early life is like a mirror of mine!
And then ofcourse, the story of Motorhead."
- KarKing Jack

I just finished Slash's book, which the originator of the post was just starting up. I'd say I liked it about as much as I liked Nikki's Heroin Diaries. I've read The Dirt and Tommyland as well and they were both great.

There's a good Rush biography by Martin Popoff that I'm blanking on what the title is, but they go through and talk about every single album they've done, which I always find extremely interesting. I love the behind-the-scenes stuff. Mick Fleetwood also wrote a really good autobiography in the late 80's early 90s that I've read a couple of times if you like Fleetwood Mac at all. I'll probably read Tom Petty's new autobiography when it comes out.

"Sound Of The Beast: The Complete Headbanging History Of Heavy Metal" by Ian Christie
"Heroes and Villains: The True Story Of The Beach Boys" by Steven Gaines
"Crossroads: The Life and Music of Eric Clapton" by Michael Schumacher (I totally enjoyed this one)
"Alanis Morisette: You Oughta Know" by Paul Cantin
"Midnight Riders: The Story Of The Allman Brothers Band" by Scott Freeman
"Rush Tribute: Mereley Players" by Robert Telleria

Rush's Neil Peart wrote 3 books, I have 2 of them: "Traveling Music" and "Ghost Rider On The Healing Road" (I do not not have "The Masked Rider: Cycling in West Africa" yet.......)

I know this ain't music, but I have an autobiography of Chuck Yeager, called "Yeager" written by himself and Leo Janos

I have this big book on just the 70s, that covers the politics of the decade, and the music, that Rolling Stone, the magazine, put out in 1998.

"The Complete Book Of M*A*S*H" by Suzi Kalter

3 photography books....
"Songs From The Hills: An Intimate Look At Country Music" by Maria von Matthiessen
"The Hollywood Storyteller" by Mark Drop
"Shooting Stars: Favorite Photos Taken by Classic Celebrities" which was conceived and compiled by David I. Zeitlin, and the photos in the book were restored by Harriet Zeitlin..... (Interesting book.)

I have quite a bit for books, but most are in boxes right now. I am a huge book junkie, and I'd have to search for all the others put away, but you get the idea.... I will post the others when I can...

Wow! I see that you haven't read "The Dirt", the unofficial autobiography of Motley Crue...
That ranks up there with one of the best books of its kind. If you liked Heroin Diaries, that was based on the style and success of The Dirt. Me and my roommate at the time literally had a fistfight over whose turn it was to read it. You couldn't buy it yet, we had checked it out of the library, and were lucky enough to snatch it right as the librarian stamped it into the book database. With both of us reading it, it still only took 2 days to kill it...it caused me to crave drugs and booze, both of which I succumbed to during the reading of it.

Ok so, I'm like obsessed with learning facts n stuff about the bands I like, so I read a lot of books about bands and the music scene in general.

I was wondering what books you have read lately and what you think of them/what you would consider the best ones.

Recently I have read:
* Hey Ho Let's Go: The Story Of The Ramones
* Nikki Sixx's Heroin Diaries
* Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga
* Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History Of Punk
* Slash by Slash (Just started this one)
* And next on my shelf is Alice Cooper: Golf Monster

All fantastic books. While I have to say The Heroin Diaries was an amazing rollercoaster ride of a book, it didn't put me off drugs half as much as Please Kill Me. It's the story of the punk scene right from the inception of the Warhol crowd in the late 60s right up to punk's general demise in the early 80s. It's told by many voices and, of all of the "characters" represented, I counted at least 38 deaths among them, almost all from drugs.

Opinions?
I'd also love to hear recommendations, I'm always on the lookout for new books.
