No deffinatley not overrated, they have worked for their success and deserve all of it. They have consistently put out some of the best albums of the 80s and wrote the anthems for the Decade of Decadence. Now a band that is overrated is Poison. I like them and all but seriously they werent as good as they were made to be. I will take Danger Danger over Poison any day.

Yea,I don't think crue is overrated either.esp. being credited as one of glams originators.cuz they were.one of the firsts of glam metal.I can't answer this question, but I could name a shit ton of underrated ones.I love poison and crue, and sometimes I get pissed cuz that's all hot ass girls of today know in terms of glam.and I'm talkin hot ass girls as in preppy, hollister, abercrombie girls wearing short skirts.the chicks ud find in like a club, glowsticking.check out a poison or motley concert to kno wat I'm talkin about.a bunch of my friends back home r like that as I've mentioned here before.chicks that listen to rap and R&B,but go to poison or crue concerts, not believing that they r glam, and only knowing the Hits.I just wish the same hot ass girls would know some of the other bands in the genre as well, like the afformentioned Danger Danger.

Yeah thats well stated Dash. I love Poison too, i just get sick of Brett, CC has a huge influence on me as a guitarist. I just think there are alot of bands that should be up there with Crue and Poison too.

HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU CALL THE MOTLEY CRUE OVERRATED!!!!

**Forget their biggest album, "Dr. Feelgood", and they've still got an AMAZING library of songs.

**Nikki Sixx has got to be one of the most influential musicians of all time--and he was just an 'okay' bass player when they put out "Too Fast For Love". You can see the influence of Sixx's look in modern musicians(famous or undiscovered)!

**The Crue have influenced bands from Papa Roach to Slipknot, Linkin Park to Crashdiet, Marilyn Manson to Nine Inch Nails, Buckcherry to Disturbed.

**They lost Vince & Tommy at different times and THAT didn't kill them. They got their shit together, pulled 'ol Mick off of death's bed, and are still out there! Hell, Mick is almost 60 and is still one of the best & most underrated guitarists!

**They never tried to hide their mistakes & addictions. They faced the shit-storms and soldiered through! They're the only band that probably gained popularity because they were bad ass bad boys.

Motley Crue is a band that's leaving behind a LEGACY! Overrated bands don't.
    ************************************************************
For an overrated band I'm going with -- as much as I like them -- GUNS N ROSES.

My reason? They had, in my opinion, the BEST debut album of all time. Aside from the obvious hits, the rest of the album is fucking amazing! BUT the follow-ups...While they had some classic tunes, pale in comparison! The "Use Your Illusion" records are too over-produced. They came out raw and no-nonsense with "Appetite"(and "Lies")and then went WAY OVER THE TOP!

"November Rain"? "Estranged"? Overly-'epic'! Piano & orchestral backing!? 9 minute length!? The video: jump off an oil tanker & swimming with the dolphins!! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, AXL?!!!! I'll take the Crue's "Without You" video over that shit any day!

It became all about Axl's ego rather than playing kick ass rock & roll. That's the sad tale GNR will leave behind: A band with all the elements in place to become legendary, fell apart because of Axl...and nothing else... :x

My interest in GNR faded in '92 after I saw them with Metallica and Faith No More at Texas Stadium. No "Spaghetti Incident?" for me. "Chinese Democracy"? No Slash? No thanks.
(Their cover of "Sympathy for the Devil" was great though)

The "New" Guns N Roses are imposters! It's like the Vince Neil Band being called Motley Crue...The new GNR has like 8 members! What are they? Slipknot? The GNR I will always consider the REAL GNR ended with the dismissal of Adler. Axl should just create a new band with a new name and quit pissing on the grave of GUNS N ROSES.

You are forgiven. Never besmirch the Crue again!!

Most overrated was WARRANT!!!! Fuck I hated them! They always seemed like a bunch of pussies trying to convince everyone how bad they were. Sure I loved the Cherry Pie video as much as the next guy but it had nothing to do with their music.
I dont want to upset any Warrant fans here but lets be serious, was there anything remotely original about them?
I just dont think they were that good to get the amount of publicity & hype they got back in the day. There were a lot of better bands than Warrant around back then that should have made it big but didnt. I'll never see what people liked about them.
    Rant over.

Haha, well I am a huge Warrant fan,but wat u have over me is experience having lived back then, seeing as how I was born in 89.so I would kno nothing of all the publicity they got.and I see why someone back then would hate them cuz, well from wat I've heard over the years of my extensive research, they're one of the few bands that took a lot of the shit, like Winger and Poison.and I'm a Winger fan too,I might add.I don't kno, maybe I like the "cheese" and the "over-the-top"ness.Warrant,in my opinion, are pretty original, but that's just me.if u listen to any one of their songs,ud see that joey and erik have a certain sound they get when they play their riff.like a signature sound.iso that if a song came on and someone didn't kno it,they'd be able to figure out its a Warrant song just by hearing that signature sound.kinda like George Lynch with Dokken, and Warren with Ratt.but I'm not here to prove a point.in my eyes, and not like it really matters cuz I hadn't really lived the scene,I think Warrant deserved more.

Lol, I love how you get assaulted for dissing the Crue. Well, I THINK MOTLEY CRUE ARE SHIT, BOYS.

But they aint overrated. I mean, considering 'Neglecktra' records didn't give them shit, and they still went platnum on every single record and got an enourmous fanbase ON THEIR OWN, they much deserve all of the credit they get. As well as that, the message they displayed was something fantastic - even though I don't really like 75% percent of their music, I still listen to it 'cos it means a lot.

Anyway, I totally agree with SIXX Shooter on Guns and Roses. Also, a band who are crazily overrated are Bon Jovi. Everyone is in-fucking-love with Bon Jovi, and I think they were just mediocer even back in the day.

"Most overrated was WARRANT!!!! Fuck I hated them!" - Salem

Hey I wanna stay out of this but feel I should give Warrant a little support. Motley Crue don't need it but boy KarKing are you gonna get it from some of our members! In fact that comment of yours has made me burn my dinner :)

I see Jani and the gang as a bunch of fun lovin' guys that just wanted to play Rock N'Roll, party and generally have a good time. I prefer them any day over many other glam bands. The first two Warrant releases are great glam metal albums.

Warrant took lots of shit for the song Cherry Pie but it was the record label's marketing strategy that forced them to write it - what were they supposed to do? CBS records who at the time had just been bought by Sony needed to compete with the likes of Warner who owned Motley Crue and PolyGram who owned Bon Jovi. Cherry Pie at least is a classic party song that still gets played every weekend across the globe. Jani once rejected Cherry Pie during an interview but later retracted his comments as he was going through bad shit at the time - see 6m:26s:

They did get a lot of airplay and attention back in the day but no way near as much as Skid Row or Guns N'Roses. Looking back, Warrant songs were perfect for radio play compared to musically richer and heavier sounding bands such as L.A. Guns, Bulletboys, Queensryche or Warlock.

For me, the early Warrant albums brought the magic of being a teenager to life...

In fact you got me thinking now what's so special about Warrant? Well I gotta say that it's the song writing. Well I'm half way through the second album and I haven't skipped any songs yet!

CrueChick!! Long time no see(or read in this case)!

Totally agree with you on Bon Jovi. Their music was 'good' then and SUCKS ENORMOUSLY NOW! But they're still treated like rock royalty by fans & critics.

The only edge left Bon Jovi is Richie Sambora. He's a hard drinkin' rocker trapped in a Daughtry-esque band...tragic.

Guns N' Roses were the most overrated in my opinion. The only thing they did that was any good was Appetite For Destruction. One album doesnt make a band.

LIAR. They can't be overrated if they were actually phenomenal.

Even though I love them, I think KISS is pretty overrated.
Come on, a fucking Rock N' Roll All Nite toothbrush?
But Gene did that to them.

The most overrated band who didn't do it to themselves would be Guns N' Roses.
Appetite for Destruction was good, but the rest of their stuff never matched it.

Considering that Steve Morse, Dan Huff, or CC DeVille played most of the guitar solos on those records, then Erik Turner and Joey Allen had to learn to play those parts by the tour, I have a hard time giving much props to Warrant. The songs themselves were pretty good, but they got lost in the shuffle of the image thing that Warrant was caught up in. I still like to listen to them every now and then, but I think they're overrated. Winger is another band that let the record companies concentrate too much on the image. Those guys were like an all star band. They were all excellent musicians, but all you saw was Kip striking poses. I think bands like Firehouse and Danger Danger suffered because of what these two bands did. Execs wanted them to concentrate more on their sappy ballads, instead of the rest of the album. Firehouse's first two records flat out rocked, except for the ballads you hear from them ALL the time!

Even know I do like some of their songs, I agree with GNR being overrated-but the Crue on the other hand is the shit! I'd have to say Quiet Riot would have to be added to the overrated list though...
