As many of the people that liked rock in the 80s, they listened to it when they were a teen. What did your parents think of 80s Rock? My mom didn't understand it at all, she said that the looked like women...But then again she said negative stuff about a lotta things. What did your parents think of it?

Hah...just what I think of the Hardcore crap my kids listen to now. Too loud. Too much noise. "I can't hear myself think..." "Is that music?". My dad liked his country and western which personally makes me nauseous. But to each his own I guess.

My parents thought the same as yours, mostly my father shook his head alot, and my mother said "they were too much makeup, what are they, women for Pete's sake". I'm still trying to figure out who Pete is, and why he relates to glam rock, but thats another story.
I can tolerate some rap, but not the constant cursing and boom boom boom stuff, thats just too deep for me, my ears cant take that crap.

My son is a big fan of hardcore metal or screamo or whatever they call it....bands like "As I Lay Dying", "Job For A Cowboy", "The Black Dahlia Murder". I mean it's just screaming. I don't see the interesting part of it. I doubt I would have liked it when I was a teenager.

My parents didn't really care. My Dad was responsible for buying 'Dressed To Kill' in '75. And he was the one who took me and my 2 sisters to see ABBA in '77. He also pulled some strings with people he knew to get me my KISS ticket in '80 (as it was long sold out by the time I could afford the $13.50 for the ticket on 20 cents a week pocket money!!
He also had Sweet, T Rex & Suzi Quatro in his record collection. So when I became a teenager in the 80's, it came as no surprise to them that I got into bands like Poison, Motley Crue etc...

HA, my dad listened to some Glam bands actually!
Stuff like the Scorpions, Van Halen, Bon Jovi. He was into a number of bands like that, but he never did care for the Crue or Poison much.

My dads a preacher man and believed that rock and roll was the work of the devil. Mom just shook her head. Me, I didn't care what they did or didn't think. It was my business and my life.

Stanley, you were lucky to have such a cool Dad. My dad is a great guy, but his taste in music is all country and western. If he had to listen to anything with a drum kit involved, I don't think he could have handled it.

Wasn't Elton John pretty glam? My mom liked him.

My parents only listened to country. And I don't think I ever once turned on the stereo without hearing one of them yell "Turn that sh** down". Oh well, their loss!! And my father would look at my posters and ask "what's her name?" knowing it was going to iritate me. Yeah, my parents were definitely not impressed.

My parents didn't mind the music. They actually bought me some albums and a stereo. They got their revenge because I had to listen to Frank Santra in their car

Poor AZRocks...hope you had a good nap during the "Sinatra Fest". LOL

My parents were into Country music and I grew up listening to it. Can't say that I regreted that upbringing. One of my favorite bands, Bon Jovi now sounds like Keith Urban so everything is good.

My Moms was a HUGE Elton John FAN. I was influenced alot from her regarding SOLID MUSIC. I remember driving around in her Banana colored 1970 Mustang listening to Stones, Beatles, Johnny Winter, Elton John 8-TRACKS (HAHA - Shows my age - LOL!!)

I used to ride to school with my sister in our Dad's Mercury Cougar...and it had an 8-track too! Difference is my dad's 8-track had country western tapes in it. We used to take those out, put them in the glove box, then put in Queen and Billy Squier.
Billy Squier was not good until it was VERY LOUD!!! So we made sure we rode with the windows down."I even had a little mini skirt and waistcoat made for Wig Wam Bam. my dad hated the stuff but my mom liked some of it. She had a few Poison songs she liked along with most of the Bon Jovi I listened to.

Depends on the specific band. My Mom liked some of the music I listen too, and due to my age at the time I actually had to take my Dad with me to my first couple of shows.

My parents were good sports about music. Actually they're good sports about most things legal. My dad did appreciate that he could turn down his hearing aid.

in the heyday of glam...my mum (in her early 20s) was a Roller...but she's ditched it now...i told her, if you can ditch The Bay City Rollers THAT easily just because you grew up..then you weren't a real Roller...but it's like arguing with a brick wall...she didn't even believe me when i told her how big LA actually is....as for my dad (in his late teens) was still an Elvis and Freddie&The Dreamers fan...but they both appreciate glam...but not for the glam side...just for the music...BUT they are definitely not fans...me being one, i can tell.

My dad hated all of it but my mom liked most of the music I played. She was already into Foreigner and Styx before I got hooked on glam so musically, it wasn't a big step to cross over to Def Leppard or Bon Jovi.

I now have new appreciation for the song by the Sweet called "Turn It Down".
It was my father's theme when I was a teenager.

My parents were pretty understanding. My mom moreso then my Dad, but even he liked some of it.

My parents had an influence on me even though they deny it! My mum liked T-rex and Queen and my dad liked Black Sabbath and Led Zep (stole their vinyl collection actually). They stopped listening to that stuff years ago though. My dad claims you should listen to something that suits your age (bring on Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra) which makes me laugh. They both moan about my music being too loud, found an answer to it though. If my dad thought Hanoi Rocks was bad then he really hates Slayer and Cradle of Filth, play a few of those and he soon gives up lol

Grew up with my dad being into T.Rex,Sweet & David Bowie he likez some of the 80'z stuff as he'z been to see Guns N'Roses with me twice he also went to see Alice Cooper for 3 yearz running on his birthday. He couldn't get his head round when I went full on extreme glam but he got used to it.

my dad went with me to see AS Sweet...but that was simply because i'd just gone 18 and i would be far away from home...and my mum would have been worried...aww...i'm such a baby.

Hey people this is my first post here,Didn't see no welcome newbies post so I'd figure I'd start here....
Anyway I got the impression my parents didn't care for Glam much. They were always yelling at me to "turn that ebbie deebie crap down".I don't know what "ebbie deebie" was but I figure they were trying not to swear.Mom one time brought my sister and I to a lecture on how Rock N Roll was the devil's music. The guy had pictures of Motley Crue and the pentagram Ozzy's "Blizzard of Oz" cover and pointed out how he was smashing a cross on the ground. He had lyric quotes and backward messages. All the while me and my sister are trying to not laugh. Then he went on and said even country music was bad saying Kenny Rogers(one of my moms favorites) encouraged adultery. That's when we lost it and mom just got all redfaced. From that point she learned to tolerate our music.Posted 4 years ago # -
"turn that ebbie deebie crap down".
i love that...there is a sort of welcome post...somewhere...but Welcome to Glamrock.com anyway!
i always thought Ozzy was pretty straight forward with his lyrics...i found it was the innocent image groups and singers that put the subliminal's on their records...apart from the obvious "buy my record" that most of them have on.
