On a recent episode of "That Metal Show"(with guests Phil Anselmo & former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick), host Eddie Trunk brought up that Gene & Paul have declined to appear on the show because of Trunk's opinion that it's wrong for current KISS members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer to be wearing the makeup/costumes made famous by Ace Frehley & Peter Criss. He believes they should create their own characters like Vinnie Vincent's "Ankh Warrior" & Eric Carr's "The Fox". With no Ace and no Peter, there should be no "Spaceman" or "Catman" in KISS. I see his point, but I personally don't mind Thayer and Singer wearing them. Having seen them a month ago -- I liked seeing them they way I remembered them. Not with new characters.

The same goes for other bands who use relacement players. Is it right or wrong? Does it make you less of a fan?

**Motley Crue fans turned on the boys when they replaced Neil with Corabi. (I didn't. BUT I did when they replaced Tommy Lee with Castillo & Maloney...go figure...)

**Van Halen/Van Hagar/Van Cherone(and Van Wolfgang now?!) Fuck the nepotism, Eddie! Bring Michael Anthony back!

**Ratt with Jizzy Pearl instead of Pearcy. Not Ratt! Glad they came around!

**Axl Rose without his true Guns(Slash, McKagan, Stradlin, Adler)? Out of ammo...

**Johnny Solinger in Skid Row. Good sound-a-like. But "I Remember You", Sebastian Bach...

    And What if?

**What if Poison tries to carry on without Bret Michaels when God decides he's given Bret all the second chances he deserves? Will you still see them?

**What if Motley Crue replaces Mick with DJ Ashba of SIXX AM when Mars passes away or just retires?

**And back to KISS -- What if Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley decide "I'm too old for this shit" and retire. Should someone else put on "The Demon" & "Starchild" faces and carry on? Would you still go to the "Hottest Show In The World"?

You almost made me cry with "What if" statments. It just wouldn't be it. :(
I mean, yeah, it's almost impossible for a band to have a career without replacements (Z.Z.Top I take my hat off to them), but it's not the same if they do it at the begining and if they do it when they are already a cult bend. And sometimes depends of who is being replaced, members importances aren't allways really equal.
Still, one thing is for sure, it's always hard to take it.

Sorry if I disappointed you, DelsymAngel...I was never a fan of The Replacements band either. :)

 A little "Jersey Shore"-ish there, metalrulesall. I'm gonna' start calling you 'The Situation'.

Anyway, back to the topic: I know a lot of this depends on the replacements selected and the reasons for the replacements.

Look at Motley Crue. In-fighting among the band members led to the Vince Neil split & the Tommy Lee split. At those times, the right thing to do was replace the member. No reason to end the game 'cause of one spoiled-sport. But should Mick Mars pass away/retire...I think the Crue should retire as a whole. Out of respect for Mick. (I'm gonna hate that day by the way!) UNLESS Mr. Mars tells the others to "go on without me." Then carry on they should. But play once in a while for special shows, don't carry on like it's 'business as usual'.

I've heard that KISS(Gene & Paul, that is) have actually considered re-casting the Demon and Starchild 'characters' when Simmons & Stanley decide to retire. This SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!! A move like that would tarnish this KISS legacy for good!

I've seen a few KISS cover/tribute bands that look & sound just like the REAL BAND. But I always knew it wasn't Gene or Paul behind the makeup, and my excitement level stayed in check. If Gene & Paul simply 're-cast' their characters with replacement players, the overwhelming feeling of seeing the real KISS would no longer be there. I would just be seeing another tribute band and my interest would quickly fade.

KISS should end when Gene Simmons AND Paul Stanley decide to retire(together -- they likewise shouldn't continue with just Paul or just Gene!). Let that day be the end of KISS-tory...

Ok then, some day when you're famous call me.

And SIXX-Again, you almost made me cry again.
Calling something without (any) original Kiss members KISS would be the most horrible thing. By doing that, Gene and Paul would ruin everything they've done in all these years.
And The Crue story is also touchy. The worst thing is that no one can do anything about it. We can just hope that Mick will stay with us on this world as long as possible. (Bret too.)

Rock on, DelsymAngel! Love the wig in the pic by the way!

Sorry to keep bringing you to tears, Poisoned.

It's sad to think of these bands/members retiring, passing away...I know. But a lot of them are in their late 40s & 50s -- some in their 60s!

I think a lot of these bands should bow out gracefully (like the Scorpions are) when the time comes. But when certain 'key members' cant' go on as long as the others, then it's time to call it day.

Some bands can replace members without anybody noticing. Dee Snider could replace almost any member of Twisted Sister(except for maybe Jay Jay French) and few people would notice.

But a band like KISS, Motley Crue, Def Leppard or Poison changes or loses a key member...it's time to hang it up. Because there is more than one key member.

Scorpions are taking the high road out. They don't want to become a joke. Like Dee Snider said: "No one wants to see an old man rolling around on stage on a scooter coughing out, 'I Wanna Rock'!"

Well,I agree with Trunk.they shouldnt wear peter and ace's makup.should have their own characters.but I don't give a fuck.I don't get wat the big deal is.its just makeup, and it don't affect the music.tommy thayer and eric singer are phenominal musicians whether or not they have peter and ace's makeup on.come on people! Quit bitchin about dumb shit! Haha, that's my opinion.as far as skid row goes, sebastian ain't reuniting until the rest of the band wants to practice.axl will never play with slash ever again.I actually see mick dieing soon,so they have to retire when that happens.that's a given and they know that. Ratt with jizzy pearl is badass.no disrespect to pearcy, but his voice works with ratt and also with LA Guns.saw him with traciis version, and he was ace...I think the bottom line of the matter is that the artists are going to do watever the fuck they want to do,whether the fans like it or not.they don't give a fuck, and there's nothing us as fans can do.

Absolutely, metalrulesall! That's what happened to the Corabi Crue. The album sales slumped, they couldn't book arena gigs...and gradually had to shorten the tour because they weren't even filling the small venues!! And that's MOTLEY CRUE!

The Crue boys had to all swallow their pride, put their differences aside and bring Vince back -- even though Tommy didn't want to.

It's a music business. And the fans are the customers.
