On a recent episode of "That Metal Show"(with guests Phil Anselmo & former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick), host Eddie Trunk brought up that Gene & Paul have declined to appear on the show because of Trunk's opinion that it's wrong for current KISS members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer to be wearing the makeup/costumes made famous by Ace Frehley & Peter Criss. He believes they should create their own characters like Vinnie Vincent's "Ankh Warrior" & Eric Carr's "The Fox". With no Ace and no Peter, there should be no "Spaceman" or "Catman" in KISS. I see his point, but I personally don't mind Thayer and Singer wearing them. Having seen them a month ago -- I liked seeing them they way I remembered them. Not with new characters.
The same goes for other bands who use relacement players. Is it right or wrong? Does it make you less of a fan?
**Motley Crue fans turned on the boys when they replaced Neil with Corabi. (I didn't. BUT I did when they replaced Tommy Lee with Castillo & Maloney...go figure...)
**Van Halen/Van Hagar/Van Cherone(and Van Wolfgang now?!) Fuck the nepotism, Eddie! Bring Michael Anthony back!
**Ratt with Jizzy Pearl instead of Pearcy. Not Ratt! Glad they came around!
**Axl Rose without his true Guns(Slash, McKagan, Stradlin, Adler)? Out of ammo...
**Johnny Solinger in Skid Row. Good sound-a-like. But "I Remember You", Sebastian Bach...
And What if?
**What if Poison tries to carry on without Bret Michaels when God decides he's given Bret all the second chances he deserves? Will you still see them?
**What if Motley Crue replaces Mick with DJ Ashba of SIXX AM when Mars passes away or just retires?
**And back to KISS -- What if Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley decide "I'm too old for this shit" and retire. Should someone else put on "The Demon" & "Starchild" faces and carry on? Would you still go to the "Hottest Show In The World"?
