im just curious what you guys thought of the definitive documentary narrated by sam dunn ?...the only things i didnt like where how they never interviewed ozzy or anyone from metallica who, correct me if im wrong, are the very penical of heavy metal and i hated how they declared black sabbeth as the 1st ever heavy metal band wtf is up with that huh ?

Yeah that "Metal tree" was a bit messed up, but the movie was nice. People say that Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple were the first metal bands and I kinda agree with this theory.
    I enjoyed Dickinson's interview the most :)

Good docu! verry nice to watch. And what's wrong with black sabbath as fist heavy metal band? I think it's right, BS formed in 1966. If you place the band in that time it was quiet hard. So was deep purple, led zep, etc.

I really like the part where DIO explains the devilhorns and then all the people who do metal horns and just 1 stupid black metal fuck puts on his middle finger haha. Thats exacly how stupid black metal is :P

I didnt like it that it didnt go far back enough. Metal has roots stemming from hard rock. Black Sabbath was originally considered psyodelic rock with a dark lyrics. It was really odd at the time they came onto the sceme in late 1969. I think the very first " Metal " song ever was Inna-Gadda-Da-Vidda by Iron Butterfly. It came out in 1967. The songs been covered by everybody. The 17 minute version is badass btw. No mention of Iron Butterfly in the docu. That disappointed me

It dosent offend me at all. It was the first successful Heavy Metal song gone mainstream that was great. Even before the first Led Zeppelin album. Next was Steppenwolf doing their Born to Be Wild, then Alice Cooper hit the mainstream sceme in 1969 and then Black Sabbath made their first album in 1970.

When bands like Slayer, Megadeth and Motorhead cover Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida I think theres more to the song then a band name.

Inna-gadda-da-vida indeed is a nice song. Specially the long version. Slayer made in the garden of eden out of it ;)

Bandnames all suck if you think about it :P AC/DC came from a sewingmachine. what's deep purple for a name?
