kissangel..i have to confess for that moment there i did it too...then i thought about it. 
cos in my opinion..it's quite often...cover bands try and imitate exactly, but can fail miserably.
whereas; tribute acts are saying.."hey ... i like this music and i can sing...and if i happen to sound like the original...well that's even better"
or something along those lines anyway.

I could give 2 shits about if they play the songs good or not.they're not the original bands,haha,so wat do u expect? The fact that they're out there playin music they like,and spreading it around to people,making them remember good times,that's wat its about.cover bands r great in my opinion.hell,that's how most bands get their start anyway.plus it gives u the pleasure to honor and show ur influences.even if u do fuck them up.no one is perfect

The crazy thing is, some of the cover bands play the songs better than the original artists. A Motley Crue cover band called Live Wire(now defunct, unfortunately)that used to play here in Dallas were great. The singer sounded like Vince on the records...
Sorry, Vince Neil, but live you don't always sound great and you sing every other lyric most of the time. But I STILL LOVE THE CRUE!!
Anyway, tonight I'm going to see Metal Shop, a great cover band! And tomorrow night I'm going to see Poison Cherry(a Poison cover band) open for Nurse Ratched(a cover band made up of members of Britny Fox & Bulletboys).
I LOVE COVER BANDS!!! If I can't have the real bands anymore...The cover bands'll do just fine!

very seldom do you ever find a decent cover/tribute band that actaully does a song like say something from motley or whitesnake really well
