Alright... so both of these guy's are accomplished vocalists, with vastly different styles. Some people far prefer one or the other, so I decided to make a poll out of it. Personally, I like David Lee Roth much more. Sammy Hagar never did much for me, with either his vocals or stage presence. How do the rest of you feel?

A Van Halen concert is not complete without Diamond Dave!

I saw David a few years ago. He was the lead band for Who. Age and time hasn't been good for David. Spandex just doesn't look good on a 50 plus year old. Sammy is still rocking and doesn't really need Van Halen, thank you very much.

But you had to see Diamond Dave live onstage in 1981 to see the full effect.
I agree, a 50 year old man should not be wearing spandex.

Roth has a great ass. He does!
He should still be in jeans or leather pants instead of spandex.
    Tight ones...

I voted DLR although anytime I've seen him on TV lately he acts like a nutjob. I will admit I did like SH to though. Personally, I don't have respect for the band iteslf anymore after their latest stunt.

I don't know what they do, but they're losing their fan base.
Personally, I don't think that Wolfie is good for the band.
    He's only a kid.

Gotta go with Diamond Dave as well, making 9 votes to Sammy's 1!

I don't hate Hagar or anything, but he's nowhere near as crazy or energetic as Dave in his prime.

Even haters have to give props to Diamond Dave, just because of how incredible a front-man he was!

Hagar has the passion, has the voice...but does not have the presence that DLR had.
    Diamond Dave for president!!

Van Halens' band image was way different when DLR was with them than when Sammy was with them.

Sammy, with his frizzy hair and goatee, would never qualify as a glam band frontman. It's just not visually possible.

With DLR, we can relate to the guy. He had awesome flowing hair, wore spandex, was highly athletic and used every bit of his physical ability in the show. They were glam, no question.

with Sammy, sure he played guitar and sang good but surely, nobody is thinking that they are glam?

Jerseyboy, DLR has always acted like a 'Nutjob' - He's hyperactive and totally over the top. That's what makes him what he is.

Motley guy, Rockneverdies & Syndrome, well said you've summed it all up perfectly!

Hey, it looks like Motleyguy & Cindy actually agree on something here!!!!

Yeah, motleyguy...we actually DO agree on something. (I really DO hate facial hair too...)
I hated that stupid mustache on Steve Priest around 1980.
And that ridiculous red afro he had going...was that just a bad perm?
    Aged him.

This poll has been grinding on my mind. Hagar is really talented but I can't stand hearing his songs. Just like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, they are fantastic vocalists but I can't listen to them for any extended period of time.

Put on the 'Best of David Lee Roth', some good friends, some alcohol and you have yourself an fucking rocking party. Nothing but fun. That's what David Lee Roth's music conjures up.

Phew, glad that's off my chest.

David Lee Roth, fer sure. Hagar just doesn't have the sheer outrageousness, and that's what always did it for me about Van Halen.

"Personally monsieur," said Poirot, "I don't give le fuck."

You shouldn't talk to me. Find better company. There's better people to know. You'll only end up like Rimbaud. Get shot by Verlaine...

    DLR all the way man.

Best frontman ever in my opinion. His prime was when he was with Vai and the Bissonette brothers.

That was the best band that ever was.
