id like to take a second and talk about the more modern genre's of metal like death metal and black metal now, my theory is that black metal and death metal are lyrically more evil and demented then the classic glam/hair metal of the 80's and is alot heavier musically for example...norwegian black metal gods dimmu borgir use alot of key board music in thier songs and thier riff's are VERY raunchy ....kings of the carnival creation use's alot of key boards and thier cover of twisted sister's burn in hell is just amazing ....and death metal bands like lamb of god have some what evil or demented lyrics of you will.....where classic glam bands like ratt and motley crue tend to stick with lyrics talking alot about sex, drugs and rock n roll......the metal of ive mentioned in this thread and the musicians that play it will NEVER be what the guys from ratt or motley crue are how ever, they sure do kick ass for the modern age of metal

Metalrulesall, good thread...
I've managed to cross over into this genre a little. There are some death or black metal bands out there that have songs that are about some of the same thngs as some glamrock: sex, drugs, love, parties, just expressd differently. It's not all dark and gloom and corruption.
Ever heard Five Finger Death Punch? They have a good "love" song, love them.
And I gotta support my hometown boys Lamb of GodPosted 3 years ago # -
Just have to say not my cup of tea. Like I said before I am in awe of how they can play complicated stuff really fast but I don't like the blast beat and cookie monster stuff. I'll admit I am a big geek: A metal, and book geek, which means I love power metal as anyone can tell my my avatar. Go ahead and make fun I have heard it all.

I have been an old school metal junkie for most of my life, there have been some new bands out there that do have some pretty good stuff, but more and more of what you hear now is the same thing done over and over again, and it all sorta sounds exactly the same (i.e.Disturbed,Staind,...etc.. )No real variety anymore. Being a musician it gets old hearing the same crap ( style ) with all of the screaming of the lyrics ( thanks Linkin Park ) and lack of originality to name a few little things.

Since when were Lamb of God death metal?
Posted 3 years ago # -
I dont think she was saying LOG was death metal, just tossin in some support for them, which i do as well since I have known all of them for years, I would say they are more of the hardcore metal type tan death.

Who the fuck would want to or even think about making fun of Manowar? They are one of the best fucking bands in the world! What the fuck is more Metal than using the word "METAL" repetedly for atleast 20 times in each song? HAIL MANOWAR!!! (I'm being serious, just so you know)
Now about "New Metal." I'm okay with new revival heavy metal bands and death metal. Maybe I would even try listen to some Unblack Metal (The non-satanic alternative to Black Metal.) Now, Nu-Metal, however, is something I cannot fucking stand. (This is my opinion and I really don't care if you hate on me.
) Bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Korn, and whatnot have taken the Heavy Metal sound and fused it with the abomination that is rap music. Sure, they have Trash influenced lyrics. But the singing is more Rap than it is Rock. I don't even know why a Metal band would use turntables.

Hail fellow true metal warrior Dorkstarmy! Couldn't have said it better myself! Death to false metal! I am with you on the Nu-Metal shit. I can't stand stikin' park, or any those other bands, they just suck monkey shit. When I was in high school Limp Bizkit, Korn and Kid Rock were big, that was a damn nightmare, I was the only kid in my high school in the 90's who liked glam or classic metal. They called glam "Butt Rock" but I didn't give a shit, I saw "Nu" metal for what it was, sucking shit and not metal at all. Rock on brother!
Posted 3 years ago # -
oh man.. Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Kid Rock are fucken disgusting. One of my friends in school is actually a pussy Nu-Metal fanboy, and he actually calls our music Pussy Metal (yes, even Ozzy, Irons, Manowar, and Eddie VH)

Dude what a wanker, pussy metal my ass or did you hear it wrong was he maybe talking about his own musical tastes? I had to deal with that jack ass bull shit when I moved to Redding. My two roomies were into punk and nu metal and I don't mean the cool, kick ass punk by the Misfits, Ramones etc. but the lame bubble gum shit. I got crap from them all the time, not that I cared. I knew nu-metal sucked and that was good enough for me. Manowar could kick all of those bands asses, all at once with one brawny bicep tied between their ripped backs. Fucking nu-metal what a disgrace, shit I'd much rather listen to Death and Black Metal, at least those guys have some talent and take no prisoners attitude, nu metal is just a bunch of crybaby, wannabe tough guy, suburban pampered garbage. I know I shoot my mouth off too much, but who ever likes nu metal, cool for you, just don't play that steaming pile of dog crap around me.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I don't really like Nu-Metal but I don't hate it, though I like a fair amount of Alternative Metal.
Posted 3 years ago # -
With you on the Alternative metal stuff rkfs, to me Nu Metal just isn't new at all just very watered down and bastardized but thats just my opinion to each person his own is what I say. I don't begrudge anybody's music choices, just don't play that stuff around me.

To me it all sounds like Drop D noise or what ever the tuning is there doing. Im sorry but I think Ronnie James Dio, Sabbath are a lot darker than half of those jokers are.
Posted 3 years ago # -
BTW alot of Black metal is about the Vikings and not nessacerly(sp) Satanic

can you tell im a fan of immortal

There's nothing new.
3 albums back in the 80's for this kind of thing have yet to be surpassed.
1 Slayer - Reign in blood
2 Obituary - Slowly we rot
3 Cannibal Corpse - I cum bloodPosted 3 years ago # -
A lot a bands got blamed for Nu Metal - Faith No More, springs to mind, but the first DJ with metal band rap, that I remember was Mordred in 1989 with Everyday's A Holiday.
YMMV

- N1v3nI actually like Faith No More a bit, but I could see them being blame for the rise of "Nu-Metal".

Here's some cool new metal bands
Posted 3 years ago # -
I am always looking around for new artist as I do not want to hear the same thing over again. If I wanted to do that I could just get me a broken record.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Black Metal isn't even that new of a genre, since it's been around in some form since 1979 with Venom, and then later expanded upon and perfected by the likes of Bathory in the mid to late 80's, and Darkthrone in the early 90's. Anyway, I listen to almost everything, be it Death Metal, Black Metal, or whatever. As long as the music is interesting to me, that's all I care!
Posted 3 years ago # -
Great musicians, not in to the frog in the throut vocals, and cant stand cookie monster vocals, but great bands over all

Don't get me started... I've walked this earth for several years now and come across most types of music genres on my travels. In the 80s bands such as Whitesnake, Yngwie Malmsteen and Skid Row were classed as "Metal" when compared with popular artists such Kylie Minogue, U2 and the Pet Shop Boys. Over the years bands from the past have been declassified futher into disrespect.
Black/Death Metal and harder music fans love to dis our roots with tunnel visioned eyes - Calling most of the bands from this period "Cheese" or "Gay" apart from Slayer etc.
Well I've got news for everyone. One day "Black Metal" and "Death Metal" will sound lame in comparison to the white noise that our younger generation will listen to !!!
Once upon a time, Skid Row, Vixen, Slayer and Napalm Death shared the same chart...
Get a life - Other music genres make or brake Rock and Metal
Stick up for heavy Guitars and bad attitude !!!
Funny thing is Gay lord Rob Halford invented the look of Heavy Metal with his bondage gear

But Rob can sing!

@N1v3n:
Would you call Biohazard a precursor to "nu-metal"? (Does anyone even remember them?)
"Lives devoted to Beauty seldom end well." --Sir Kenneth ClarkPosted 2 years ago # -
I listen to some death metal, but more melodic stuff like Carcass or more groovy like Obituary. Black metal is completely lost on me. I never even bothered with Nu-metal.
Whenever I hear the latest flavor-of-the-week metal genre trying to look and sound more evil than Satan himself... I usually just shrug my shoulders and put on some Van Halen.
@ RockLibertyWarrior: don't worry, dude. Manowar is NOT for geeks. Any band that arrives on stage riding Harleys, who's show includes topless babes and who are officially the loudest band in the world is NOT for geeks. Believe it, I was in the front row, right in front of the speakers without ear protection (cuz that's for sissies right?) and I was shaking in my boots. Like a rumble that rose up from the ground and just shook my entire body to the core. My ears rang for 3 days straight, but I was wearing a smile!
