Do you consider 80's Judas Priest to be Glam?

Although they were always first and foremost considered a Metal band, their heavy infuence on Glam bands is undeniable, and many of their 80's albums sounded right at home with the Glam scene at the time. Even their image wasn't entirely unglam-like.

Regardless, they are an amazing band in their own right.

No, they weren't glam to me but they rocked hard. Jackyl too.

OMG! I completely forgot about Jackyl!

They were a fine band as well.

And as for Priest, an incredible band. And Rob Halford definitely had some pipes on him. Even now, he can put many vocalists in their place.

Priests music has always been great. During the mid-late 80's they became fashion victims of the era for sure! But to truly classify them as glam - probably not in my opinion

Priest is amazing, and I don't know what more I could say than that!

One of the greatest Heavy Metal and Hard Rock bands of all time, and with very good reason. Hell, they are also one of the oldest Metal bands period!

The Sentinel has a good melody and the words are really gory.

Think it came off Defenders of the Faith which was a pure metal album which explains the macabre nature of the song.

Judas Priest were glam but for a very short time. Maybe for half of 1986. Blink and you would have missed it.

Yeah Motley guy, I think it was around '86 or thereabouts when their black leather and studs became red and blue leather with rhinestones and diamantes, but it didn't last long - The guys would have felt rather uncomfortable, I would imagine...(except maybe for Rob H ;-) ..

To me there most glam sounding song is 'Living After Midnight'from British Steel. Because of it's simplicity and bubblegummness (is that a word?? LOL! :-) )

I guess I blinked then, cause I missed it. But '86 was during my dark days. I was suffering from mental instability and listening to country music. Fortunately that time of my life didn't last long. But I did find some music that was most definitely mis-classified and should have been in the rock category.

But anyway, I have long been a fan of Judas Priest whatever you want to call them.

And Stanley, I'm not sure if bubblegummness is a word, but if we use it 6 times it can be classified as one.

"During the day when they released their album titled "Turbo" in 1986 upto their 1990 release "Painkiller", Judas Priest were definitely a glam band.

Agreed! I think some in the 80's went through stages, they might not be full on glam but some did a really good job of bouncing between it and main stream rock back then.

Judas Priest aren't a glam band, but they certainly did have a direct influence on the genre. British Steel and Point of Entry influenced glam, and I consider their Turbo album glam metal. Painkiller is their best album.

Your not the only one, but Im not sure I would go as far as killing you know, thats illegal. :D Of so many artists in the past, I do wish I could have seen them, and it drives me insane when people tell me that I am too young to understand. :(

It's just an expression, Niki.... the only thing I kill is the occasional bug or mouse when I have to....

I know someone in their mid-20s. He loves the old stuff, too, and he and I are good friends, so I would never say that to you.... :)

i know the feeling about too young to understand too Niki...even though i've always been older than my years i still get..."i'll tell you when you're older" or "you'll understand in a few years"...it's like "goddamn tell me now, and i'll show you who fucking understands!!!"...i still get it even though i'm 18, and an adult.

definitely one of my favorite bands! a lot of people wouldn't necessarily consider them glam, but they're still a great band. glam has always been more of an attitude rather than a look to me. it matters if a band has great songs rather than how much makeup or how bizarre their image is. i know this a glam page, but i also like hard rock, metal, power pop, and punk as well as just good ol' classic rock. and priest had a lot of these elements to offer, which is what makes them so great.

Rob Fucking Halford is so awesome.

I have some of their vinyl but its in storage in Hollywierd....grrrrrr not that I even own a turntable.....I must sound like such a loser huh?

Fave LPs are Stained Class and British Steel....but its been awhile and I'm sure I'm forgetting a LOT.

I hate having to re-purchase the same music in all the new formats.....I didn't even get my first CD player until 2000.....and I have YET to download anything yet....but *I am not a dinosaur*.... :P

    I like them too.

I also have it on good authority that since Rob Halford came out of the closet, a retrospective view over their material suggests that their lyrics are about hot gay sex. But not your regular type. More like the bondage variety it seems.

AHH PRIEST. one of my all time favorites. they're not glam at all. halfords ballbusting vocals are just over the top. angel of retribution, hell bent for leather, screaming for vengeance, and british steel are easily some of the greatest albums of all time. robs vocals combined with glenn tipton's and k.k.downings guitaring skills makes for one amazing heavy metal band [that apparently has a leather fetish, but whose complaining?] i think they're so amazing that everyone learned to just get over the fact that halford is gay although i personally wasnt surprised.

im pretty sure neither of those songs were suggesting anything gay. i think people are just overanalyzing the music. if he had never come out of the closet, nobody would have ever listened to either of those songs and been like "this has to be about 'hot gay sex'"
