    Try not limit yourself to one particular genre, start writing without a genre in mind and then see what comes out, plus it's a lot easier to write without limitations. Then you should decide what sub-genre you fall into.

    Or, you could just try and mix all of your favorite aspects from each sub genre of hair metal to make your own style. If you do that successfully, then you will be more noticeable than you would sounding like a typical party band, shock rock, or an arena rock band.

    It's up to you, but that's just what I'd do. Good luck bro! :D
