Hey guys I really want to learn to play glam metal I know quite alot about the music etc, I jsut have a hard time making it. Can anyone help me I have three things to ask

    1. What guitar/amp should I get to make it(mine currently suck and are not fit to make it)
    2. What tempo and time signatures does glam metal usually use?
    3. What makes a glam metal riff a glam metal riff(I know it uses shread guitar for its solo's.

Any help or advice other then that is accepted as well :D

Hey man, great to hear you're wanting to pick up glam metal guitar.

Here is what I think -
    1. Unimportant. What is important is a distortion pedal that's got plenty of gain.

    2. Between 130 and 160 beats per minute. Always 4/4 sig,

    3. It's all in the attitude. Listen to George Lynch, Mick Mars and CC DeVille.

Only advice is to listen to as much as you can and learn as many riffs as you can. Pretty soon, you'll be making up your own and they will sound just like the guys you've been emulating. :P

I'm in the same boat as GlamMetalKyd.

I have a Line 6 Spider III 15 Watt amp...its got enough gain and more on the Insane channel. Brand new its $100. Its well worth it tho. But, if you want the full version, go for a bigger one with song presets...its got presets for stuff like Ozzy & GNR and stuff. You can sample all the songs and stuff at Line6.com. You might have to save up for the bigger versions...but you will not be disappointed.

Also, try keeping your guitar with the new amp first. The Strat rip off I have doesn't actually sound that bad with the gain all the way up on the amp.

If you want some samples to hear the amp, just let me know, I will PM you some.

    for the guitar and amp

Some superstrat guitar or a Les Paul
check out Jackson, Charvel, Ibanez, Schecter(i personally own one and have played a lot of them and they never disappoint very good company really good prices)
Ephone Les Paul Standards are good guitars im not really a LP guy though

For amps A lot of Glam Bands have used Marshall JCM800
a substitute for this could be a Peavy Windsor which is all tube and resembles a jcm, great british tone and is only $400 for a brand new half stack
to get a good tone for this music you really want a tube amp check out Vox also AC30 i played had a great tone the thing that steered me away is no mid EQ on the amp

and for the riffs i have to say a lot of them a power chords
Listen to Motley Crue and learn there stuff
i love Skid Rows style of guitar so you could check out there riffs too

Ratt is another great band to learn from

    hope this helps

Well, if you've got a little time on your hands you can always build your own like Brian May did...j/k
