I need a bit of help here. My dad wants me to dye his hair black, which I'm totally cool with, as I have experience with dying hair. Thing is, he also wants to darken his beard.
I have no idea how to go about that, could anyone tell me? I'm sure I could use the same dye that's used for eyebrows, but my mum told me that beards grow very quickly. So what should I do?

First.Does he have any grey in his hair?Grey is a challenge.Grey is more resistant and often the colour won't take on it,I have that issue dying my mom's hair.

Beard hair is I guess like eyebrow hair? Not having facial hair I can only guess.Meaning the hairs are shorter and only live a few weeks before they fall out?

I'd guess the same type of dye you use on regular hair.A permanent coat tar base dye with anyline (sp) tint.

BTW I have used permanent hair on eyebrows before. The bottle says not too but I'm not so stupid I'd get it in my eye and blind myself.

Yeah, there's quite a bit of grey, that's why he wants me to dye it.

The best option is to shave it off however, if he insists on keeping it, this is the best stuff SickThing

Beards don't grow quicker than any other hair however, the hair shafts are way coarser and require a super heavy duty dye which this product is.

    I have seen those ads.

Maybe I'll defer to a male...who actually has experience growing facial hair :D

Is he one of these guys who grows one color on his head and another in his beard? If you have to dye a beard that is significantly lighter than the rest of his hair, you may have to do it in two steps, to darken and then darken again. If you are dealing with a red beard, you may have to use what is called a "drabber" (it's a dye with a sort of olive undertone) to cut the red down, and then do the black.

Black can look AWESOME, as long as it's in healthy hair, I would love to see the before and after!

My dad used blue hair mascara on his beard. It was very effective, but I don't think it's made any more.

Its funny that I've found a thread on this.in the days of my non-glamness,early in highschool,I actually did use Just For Men to dye my goatee dark cuz my chin hair was blonde, haha.its funny now,but at the time I was really serious about that shit.as I got older,it got a lil darker,so I didn't always use it,but I did start out using it.I went thru a HUGE facial hair phase in high school.huge.like there wasn't a day when I didn't have facial hair.and I did like a shitload of dif designs too.I would come to school each week with a diff thing, haha.I guess every teenage guy goes thru that.not now tho.smooth like a baby, hahaha

Oh man, I went through a facial hair stage. I was obsessed with the idea of a beard when I was 13 - I dunno why. I was Schitzophrenic, and alot of the time I thought I was a buccanear pirate, so I guess a big bushy beard was important. I used the cream that balding men use on their hair to make it grow all over my face, and it just gave me a rash, LOL.

When I was 14 I was able to grow a full beard - huge black thing. So I did. 14 year old kid with a big beard, genius. Anyway, then I started shaving it down to just muttons, and I had big muttons. I was 15, then.

When I turned glam, I tried to shave 'em into stars. I succeeded. Looked fucking stupid though, LOOOLLLL. So now I'm clean. But since if I leave shaving for one day, i have a mass of facial hair, I cant really say that all the time, haha.

When I saw this topic I was expecting you to want to dye a beard pink or purple or something.

Does anyone know what kind of hair conditioners are good for making beards softer? I use a suave hair conditioner on it and it makes is grow in nice and smooth Then comb it well and looks good I think. I was thinking about dying it but I don't know about dying beards either and mine is or rather was mixed blond/dirty blond, and with some black hairs but now mostly grey.
Years ago I had a full huge beard about 6" and it looked so wild like a biker and I shaved my head. I always like to change my look every so often, and experiment.
