It really annoys me when I go to gigs and see people that haven't put any effort into their looks. OK, so I'll definitely let the older folk off, that's fine if they don't do the whole glam thing. But there's kids there in clothes that make the clothes I wore in the day look glammy...I usually just wear jeans, t-shirt and whatever shoes I can find...
It just seems wrong to go out of a Friday night and just wear what looks like they just found at the bottom of their wardrobe the minute they were leaving!

I didn't dress up for one gig, because I had the flu, and I still looked more glam than half the people there!

Does anyone else agree that half the fun of gigs is dressing up like the band you're seeing and living that attitude, even just for the one night?

    I agree!

Back when Motorhead started, as Lemmy recalls in his book 'White Line Fever', they had a huge fanbass between punks and hippies and bikers. Their sound just fitted with punks and bikers and hippies were following Lemmy out of Hawkwind.

Anyway, one time, he was doing a show - and he noticed people in the crowd were wearing white boots and a bullet belt, to come to the show in. That became his thing for a little while - but at that time then he only bought them that week!

    Thats dedication!!

I don't see the big deal, your goin to a show why get glammed up if your going to get sweaty and your hairs gonna fall down anyway hah, at least for most people. Jillian and I were the only ones glammed at the WASP Show, but most people there were older or just not into the glam thing.

I agree, gettin dressed up for a concert is half the fun, espcially when you have people coming up to you and telling you how good you look! :)

I want the 80's to last forever!

I've mentioned somewhere on here that most of my friends back home all wear either hollister, american eagle,or abercrombie and fitch.and there's this one group that goes to see poison and crue every year, and they refuse to admit that that's glam music.they just know the bands as they're portrayed today, knowing just the hits.its dissapointing really.but anyways, they go to these rock concerts wearing this stuff and its just dumb.here I am,appreciating the bands for who they are,and most people today just see them as regular rock acts or whatnot.they're fucking glam! Its a fucking glam show! And these 2 bands r the only bands they know, haha,so it sucks for me to see this all go down.they're my friends tho,so I'm just like, "watever guys".haha.yea,I believe that if u go to a rock show,at least wear something remotely close to resembling something rock and roll.a band shirt, bandana, ripped jeans, whatever.just not hollister.that's my opinion

It is the same at goth and punk rock shows as well.I went to a D.O.A. gig some time ago and the average visitor looked like a school teacher, button downs and all that.
Not only a bit sad but also disrespectful,IMHO.You won't visit an opera house in slacks and a polo shirt, but its ok to look average joe at a rock show?Dressing up is a big part of the magic. At least for me.

I want my MTV!I want my MTV with music on it!

Sorry, but I don't see the big deal. To be fair, I'm not much on dressing up anyway, as I like the simplicity in jeans and a vest... but whatever :P

I totally agree with this! It's a total ritual for me getting ready to go out to a club/bar/gig. You have to look good and keep that hair in shape!

There is a plus point to getting dressed up for a gig when a lot of people don't bother...it means you're easier to find in the sea of people wearing a black tshirt and jeans.
A downside though is if everyone glammed up for gigs, with platform boots and big hair...the vertically challenged, like me, wouldn't be happy being stuck behind em all :P

Do you have to look glam to like glam or go to the concerts ? I don't have long hair, I wear a suit and tie to work , then put on 80s rock shirts when I'm out or at concerts. I go to concerts to enjoy the music not be part of any fashion show. I went to Motley Crue wearing my Joan Jett 1983 tour shirt. Nobody seemed to mind. People were tripping out at the shirt even.

Maybe im just too old for this stuff anymore

^But you didn't just come straight from work, a Joan Jett shirt (rad) is a lot better than some people.
