Okay, though it won't be for a few months, my school is going to be having an "80s" day. I plan on coming to school that day all "glammed" up. So I need some advice from some of my fellow hair metal fans. Here's a couple questions I have.

    1. How do I get my hair all teased up? (my hair is pretty long, it's a couple inches passed my shoulders.) I want it to look slightly poofy, but not too poofy. I kinda want it to look like the singer from Warrant (89-90). If possible, I'd like step by step info, including what products I'll need, etc.

    2. Where can I go to get tight black leather pants?

    3. Should I wear a glam metal band tee? (Poison or Motley Crue), or should I wear one of them stripped shirts that were popular back then? I have a black leather jacket, so I would wear it over my shirt, obviously.

    4. Is there any other accessories I should get to add to my image, and if so, where could I get them?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Thanks!

Do you have a Claire's near you? That's a good place to start....with glittery body spray. Any local boutique that sells inexpensive jewelry. You're gonna want to get a lot of hairspray. A drugstore is a good place to get that. Aqua Net is a good holding spray. While you're at the drugstore, check out the makeup section. Find some sparkly and shiny colors for your eyes and gloss for your lips. Get a couple of eyeliner pencils. Go online to avon.com later and look around the site. There's always makeup tips there.
Go to a JC Penney's and ask for leggings. Black ones. I don't know where to find leather pants. I honestly don't. Go to a local hair salon and ask them how to tease your hair or give it some lift. They'll show you how. You might even want to make an appointment for the same day as the '80s day if you can. That's my advice. I'm sure other people have more ideas for you. A good person to ask is Starr76. He's very glam.

    Teasing hair.I'm a beauty school dropout so I won't steer you wrong;D

I like to section it off starting at the crown.Make a rectangle about 2 inches wide and slightly less than an inch long.(Or, what feels nice but NOT TOO THICK in your hand.Hold this piece straight up.Spray on each side with a bit of hairspray.WHEN the spray is dry take a comb OR brush (not the wire brushes with balls on the ends THEY WILL PULL HAIR OUT).Start 2 inches above the scalp and, while still holding that piece of hair straight up, use your brush or comb and start brushing/combing it backwards (towards the scalp).Do this repeatedly with that section until its mostly a ball of fluff.

Imagine that section is cut in half.Make 2 sections just like it....imagine bricklaying.Do this exact same step with each section.Remember to spray and let spray dry before teasing.Do this either all over the head or focusing on the center brick pattern.Don't worry, you will brush over it and it will look like big hair, which is what you want.Finish off with a l;ayer of spray, and let it dry so your hair doesn't get curled from the wet spray.

Hey I teased up lots of extras for the film Rock Star.

Syndrome is right about Claire's.I also have found great supplies at dollar stores...or wherever.Spencer Gifts can be kewl, also Big Lots and Sally Beauty supply or any beauty supply store.

You will probably want eyeliner.Whichever formula works best for you.I prefer waterproof liquid.

Any leather or fake leather studded or spiked armbands or belts would be great. And handcuff belts are great too.

Depending on if school considers spikes and cuffs as weapons.Something to think about. If spikes are outlawed theres always studs.Also...rubber bracelets would work, either black or colors.

And for necklaces, anything with skulls or stars, or rock band logos from 80s bands.

Feel free to ask any of us for further clarification.....

Thanks, Lady Leathur! I should have automatically known you would know how to make big hair bigger and better...lol. And the wristband thing...I totally should have mentioned that. Thanks for filling in my gaps! I didn't mention liquid eyeliner because I can't work it, so I can't give advice on it.

That is a very cool method for styling hair! I must try it some time. Seems my sister and I have been doing it the wrong way around - backcombing and then spraying, which just makes a mess. :D

Theres more than one way of doing it.In beauty school where I FIRST learned they used rattail combs.I've learned to use practically anything out of sheer necessity.Even my bare hand.Even a fork!

And...you don't need layers cut into your hair to do it right either.I haven't let a soul TOUCH my head since.....before 9/11.I just trim my own bangs.(Once I got a cheap trim in a Hollywood beauty school...in 87....damn student recut the guideline 7 TIMES and that meant 7 inches of length bye bye.BOY was I pissed.

I like to use a crimping iron to get rid of most of my natural wave before getting all dolled up.Hairspray does make the hot part sticky though but no problem.

Oh yeah....if you ever want to add thickness to your hair you can get some neutral henna-the powder-NOT the stuff with metallic salts though....that mixed with hot water and soaked on your dry hair under a plastic cap for an afternoon then shampood out (twice, as its sandy feeling) will coat the hair shaft and make hair stronger.I do this after bleaching my roots but before soaking my purple dye in.Really helps the colour grab on well.

(*giggles* I learned THIS trick from a drag queen pal in San Francisco).

You never know where you're gonna learn something useful ;)

Would you be willing to compromise and score spandex instead???

Black spandex will give the same effect and it WON"T get baggy, won't stretch out of shape.

Not to mention being waay cheaper and easy to sit in without getting it out of shape.

My school did this already its called ERA day you dress like an era that was your favorite. My dad used to be in a band back in the day(86-89, opened for White Lion, Grim Reaper and Paul Dianno)so he was a great source, used his glittery stage jacket, leathur pants, chained wallet, pair of converse, Motley Crue shirt(DR. FEELGOOD), I dont have long hair cause I play 3 sports and it sucks to take care of it but wore a bandanna, and some GUYliner and I was set

why the hell did my schools never have these?...not that i'd have had the confidence at the time to go out like i do now, my confidence only came about from October 11th 2007...hmm, i can't think what forum i joined on that day!!! ...but why doesn't my school have one now? we still have limitations and i'd love to break them legally for a change just for one day! :-)

it'd be a great excuse for going out to find something really awesome to wear for it...mind you, in Bradford i wouldn't know where to look...Glam isn't exactly it's strong point- that's stark raving lunacy-.

I got some tight leather pants at the mall yesterday. I'm actually surprised I was able to find them. Well, they're girl pants, but I don't care. It's not like anyone's really going to notice anyway.

Hot Topic was, surprisngly, very helpful for me today. While I was there, I bought a black and white stripped shirt, a white tiger skinned bandana (I wear it like a headband), and red tiger skinned leather gloves. My brother is also giving me his old snake skinned boots. The only thing I really want now is either a leopard or tiger skinned shirt either lime green or tan. That would look cool and very 80s.

It's weird, because it's probably the first thing I've bought from Hot Topic since I was still posing as a gawth, and that was a while ago. I normally don't go to that store, because of the negative rep it has with metalheads.

yeah..we have NPNG where i live (No Pain No Gain)...and it's got it's cred for being a mosher shop...which isn't fair...it does sell some good shit...even if most of it is black...i only don't go in there, because there's a guy who works there, and lets just say it's creepy when his eyes aren't following my face....normally i don't give a damn...but he is just a little too on the wrong side of creepy for me.

Over here there are a few good stores; Off Ya Tree, Hit N Run, oh and this little shop called Jox n Sox or something like that, which sells a wide variety of stockings, socks, and fishnets. Some of my friends really want there to be a Hot Topic here, because shopping online sucks.
