To anybody who uses the fileshare programme Limewire uninstall it immediately just read that record companies are going to be uploading virus files to it in the form of mp3 files once you try and burn or play these files it will burn out your c-drive.

I think I've seen those little virus files on there...they're about 11kb in size - so inconspicuous, really (sarcasm) - and come up no matter what you search for, trying to look like a valid search result...Viruses are easy to get rid of anyway.

I'm okay, well, my PC is. When I download songs I put them straight on to my .mp3 mobile hone. So my phone'll just get fucked up. I'm not too bothered, it's on its last legs anyway.

I think this is going to drive away a load of people...It's a negative message. Us downloaders could get one of those virus tracks. That's like a big message saying "dont listen to this artist". Besides, if CDs were cheaper or everyone in the world had a bank account, then the downloaders wouldn't have to steal...

There's still programmes that rip tracks from youtube and myspace though. This'll just stop a load of Limewire users. What about Kazaa? Demonoid? All the rest?

I never tried any of that download music stuff. When we ignore copyright the artists suffer then we wonder why theres shit for new record company signings....If I REALLY want to steal music,(which just turns me onto albums I'll often buy)...I just pop a cassette into my boombox and record the tune off my radio.

Besides....if you store music on your computer, doesn't that take up lots of space? And if you crash you just lose it anyway.

I also just like to visit peoples pages who have music....another way to play new tunes. The sound quality on my computer is nice,I think....

I don't steal any music...I usually buy mp3s from amazon.com to make sure I have the right to own them.

Never downloaded one single solitary song in my life.
Never will. I like to have the music plus a cover or artwork in a solid state by the original artist that really is quite reasonably priced. I know friends who have downloaded songs and they're by the wrong artist or not by the artist you thought it was by.
Too much fucking about with aload of possible crap.

I've bought a whole album cause I liked one song. I didn't think it was such a great idea. It's cheaper for me to spend a dollar and buy the song download from amazon.com - the artists don't mind.

To the best of my knowledge, .mp3 can't really transmit a virus because they are not "executable." They aren't programs, but data that is read by your media applications. If its anything but a file that plays music, your mp3 player will just tell you that it's corrupted and move on to the next file. There's no way to get data in the mp3 to trigger anything negative in your computer.

On the other hand, if the file is a .exe file (or other executable), and you click on it, All bets are off. That program can do whatever it wants.

So the first statement on here is impossible.

don't you think all that 'real fan' stuff is bullshit? I'd buy Poison CDs instead of downloading them...but HMV and Zavvi DONT EVEN SELL THEM. :) Doesn't mean I'm not a fan...

Limewire is a good way of getting into a band...if downloads didnt exist, then people would waste money on CDs and not liking the band...

Yeah, sometimes, I do a lot of downloading from amazon.com...that way the artists still get royalties from the songs they wrote. Some of those songs are tough to come by too.

This sounds like a playground rumor. I especially love the "burn out your c-drive". Can just visualize my computer smoking out like Ace Frehley's guitar in Shock Me. LMFAO

from what Starr said to me..i don't think the virus has always been there...i think they're going to put it in...and it isn't the people who own limewire...it's the people losing out to it.

I've tried Limewire. I have a Mac and it seems to work fairly well with it, not that I use it a whole lot. It opens into itunes, only thing is if you want to play them, you have to have both open. For whatever reason I cannot convert any of the files to a format that copies into my ipod or to burn on CD. Of course, Macs are tempermental buggers, they don't like anyone's elses stuff but their own.

They can't put a virus in...unless they upload .exe files. Mp3s can't contain viruses, so they should be safe...
