i didn't know...glam/hair was a singing style...i thought it was a visual style...but if you mean can anyone sing like a glam/ hair metal singer specifically....i can do some Brian Connolly/Andy Scott vocals....and sometimes Suzi Quatro...i can do a few Marc Bolan too.

Char is right. It's visual. Glam is all about the look.
If you sound like Joe Elliot you're a good singer.

To sing true glam like Sebastian Bach, Don Dokken, Joe Elliot, Axl Rose, Paul Stanley & Mike Tramp, you need to be born gifted.

If you guys on this thread are imitating the greats without breaking out into falsetto to hit the notes, you are gifted too.

I got a buddy that think's he's like that. He thinks he's sings like the 80s greats but when I point out that they didn't have to got to falsetto to make those big notes and he's singing the whole song in falsetto, he just doesn't get it. So I'm constantly telling him to shut the fuck up or turning up the radio to drown him out because he sounds like shit to my ears.

I get that - falsetto singing over the radio drives me crazy...and I need to stay away from Karaoke bars or I'll get a load of falsetto overdubs there.

i tried doing a falsetto the other day...my mum thought someone was murdering a cat...i said "it's not my fault this song's so high...and that my range is only middle-alto"....it's not like i wrote the song...so i didn't specify that it should be that high in range...i couldn't have written the song anyway...being only 3 at the time.

I can do the vocals alright, but I need more practice.

Dunno if I could hit the really high notes, but maybe eventually.

Everything takes time and dedication to truly perfect.

I sing back-up (and play bass) in a sleaze band. The vocalist is a female and she's got a low voice so she forces me to help her to get to the high ones and damn, after training and practicing I've noticed that I can go pretty high. But still, it's so hard to get the notes that it really takes a man to do it - their voices can't go into wailing as easy as a female's voice.

i can't wail....and my vocals are really low...most of the time anyway. i'm focusing on the writing side at the moment....maybe in a few years i'll think of getting an instrumental outfit on board....preferrably when i get out of this dump.

    UPDATE : Intervention Complete

My buddy that sings everything in falsetto. Well, I've been talking to his friends and family and everyone is so totally fed up with him trying to sing like the greats.

He's recently bought one of those iPod things and now has started to sing unaccompanied. It really is pathetic to hear, so we put our heads together and decided to confront him.

We were all in his living room, about 8 of us. We broke the news to him gradually and softly as we could that his singing was making us distance ourselves from him.

He took it well but had tears running down his eyes. After that we bought out some hot dogs and beer and socialized a bit.

    Hope it all works out.
