Well, that guy popping in to inform us we dont talk about 70s Glam Rock enough (how polite, eh?) encouraged me to make a thread I had thought to make a while ago.

So... Whats your favourite Glam Rock band/artist from the 1970s?

For me, it HAS to be David Bowie. The most famous of his Glam Period, although I love all of his stuff, being the three albums - The Rise and Fall Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs (personas of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Helloween Jack, respectively), although there were others. For instance, The Ziggy Stardust Motion Picture, or Pin Ups (a serious of covers), or David Live.

Following him probably Lou Reed, or Iggy Pop and The Stooges, or Marc Bolan. :D

    So what about you all?

Can't choose between Sweet, T Rex, New York Dolls and David Bowie.

    All for different reasons.

Sweet because I love the pop to them
T Rex because of the sheer glitterglam beauty of Marc Bolan and the whimsy and folk he inspired even in glam rock
New York Dolls because 80s glam would have been nothing without them
David Bowie because the man is a musical legend

THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD -- KISS!!

Bowie & NY Dolls are great, but after I saw KISS on the "Paul Lynde Halloween Special" on TV back in '76 I was hooked! I sat there Indian-style, mouth wide open, thinking: "What the hell is this!! And where the fuck can I get some more!!?" I bought the "Destroyer" LP a couple of days later.

They're the reason I fell in love with glam. And I also owe my love of Motley Crue to them. When I saw an ad for the "Shout At The Devil" album in a rock mag their look reminded me of Kiss, so I took a chance & bought tickets to their concert(before I'd ever heard one of their songs). I wanted to see if they put on as good a show as Kiss did. AND THEY SURE AS HELL DID!

Check out the 1976 TV show that turned a 9 year-old SixxShooter into a GLAM FAN FOR LIFE!

my vote went to Bowie only because my science teacher ocasionally plays his stuff on his radio while we're working.
And the pic of New York Dolla they got here, scares me.
I wasn't a big 70's glam, most of the glam bands i know came in the 80's.
My grandma would be a good person to answer this one though, i showed her this place yesterday. She would have said Iggy or Mott The Hoople.

For me it's a toss up between Marc Bolan and David Bowie. Both are cool! 8) I ended up voting for Marc Bolan, however.

Bowie and Bolan are well in the lead, which Im pretty glad about!!

I've been listening to a lot of Mott and Sweet recently, as well as Bowie and Bolan. Theres something brilliant about all those bands, you know. Something that makes me wanna stand up and shout, something that makes me wanna dance and live in excess. Just the flippancy and the frivality, it was something special.

MAMMA LET ME OUT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT,
SHE SAID GO AND GET HER BOY, HOLD HER TIGHT,
I SAID MAMMA YOU DONT UNDERSTAAAAAAND,
EVERY TIME I TOUCH HER HAND,
I FEEL LIKE IM BURNING IN THE FIRES OF HELL
AND IF I HOLD HER TOO LONG, YOU NEVER CAN TELL,
WHAT'LL HAPPEN TO ME, WOULDN'T WANT YOU TO SEEEE!!!

OK...well I'm a total amateur on here, but here's my opinion. I actually don't know much at all about 80's glam and hair metal. I think on this site there's obviously a preference for it, which is cool, and it seems like amazing music, but personally the glam I know is exactly this kind. Bowie is one of my favorite artists of all time. Mott The Hoople are also right up there, plus Iggy and T-Rex, and Lou Reed. I've seen the Dolls (sadly in their more recent incarnation, e.g. mostly dead.) and they were still amazing. And I like some art-rock/glam as well, like Roxy Music. Bowie takes the lead, it must be said. The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust is such an incredible album. And of course All The Young Dudes is a total glam rock anthem, my favorite song of all time.
