Hmm, that's an interesting observation, Metalfreak.
Def Leppard's background vocals were over processed layered and heaped with FX no way could they be reproduced live. As were a lot of the guitar riffs and solo's which were multi-tracked. This was mainly due to Mutt Lange's production methods. Also as I know that Glam originated in England, the genre and terminology 'Hair Metal' was coined from the LA scene.
Not only that, they were never big on the make up (only doing the basics) or the glittery colorful costumes (mostly focusing on denim and the like).
And to cap it off, they never had 'big hair' and a couple of them actually had short hair through most of their career.
I would put Def Lep in the category of NWOBHM along with Maiden and Saxon etc...

Queen. Brian May's hair is all Brian May too. Still grows like that. The outfits were priceless. Freddie's stage moves were classic. I have a deep respect for Def Leppard, though, and I think Joe Elliott rocks! But S-man, I always thought Rick Savage had beautiful hair. My sister had it bad for him too. But no band was more glam than Queen. Sweet came pretty close!

I thought Motley Crue had their best glam period (hair to die for) in the '80s.
"Live Wire" was my favorite Crue song and Vince Neil was hot. (Still is...)
Seemed after Tommy Lee married Pam Anderson, he lost a lot of his edge. But that's just my opinion...Queen still tops my list and Sweet are still the godfathers of glam."I even had a little mini skirt and waistcoat made for Wig Wam Bam. Oh yes, without doubt Sweet will always be the Godftahers of Glam.
But if the thread is 'hair metal' I think we should be talking Sunset Strip bands on this thread. And Cindy, i agree, Motley Crue is in the race for the title. But Poison & Ratt would be close in the running."I'M BACK!!"Posted 4 years ago # -
I always got a charge out of Twisted Sister. Big hair, awful makeup and it was all part of the act.

Glam metal: I still like AC/DC for that. But they are Australian, right? I don't know if Brian Johnson is....I think he's American.

Syndrome : You are right, AC/DC are Australians. Brian Johnson is Scottish.

I stand corrected.

I reckon if any of the AC/DC boys knew we were discussing them on a Glam forum, they would throw a fit and Bon would be turning in his grave! One of the best and recognisable Rock bands of all time, no doubt, but far from glam!!! IMHO

I don't know, S-man, Bon Scott sure liked to entertain.

In what capacity are you referring to the "Ultimate" Glam Rock or Glam Metal Band?
- Musical Ability?
- Popularity?
- Record Sales?
- Image?B-eef

Probably, Beef, the group that would be most remembered for their impact. The group with the hottest and most talented vocalist, most popular tunes, most flash, antics and best hair! Somewhere in there.

metalfreak06 : This is a suggestion but I encourage you to take it. When starting this type of thread where you are seeking opinion on a topic, it's better value all round if you set up a poll as well.
It's not hard to do. Here are the instructions on how to set up a POLL in a thread

My OVERALL Personal Opinion would have to be MOTLEY CRUE then. Again, only my opinion. They actually were influenced by a lot of the 70's Glam Rock outfits (especially Nikki). So, again i'd have to go with MOTLEY CRUE.
