David Lee Roth looks fine in spandex.

I don't think the fact a person is a certain age should automatically mean no spandex.

    Acting ones age is overrated.

    besides, DLR acts immature....lol I couldn't resist.

BUT....I recommend a home taped KIng Biscuit Flour Hour recording of Sammy Hagar covering James Brown's "Through The Eyes Of Love"...damn wish I hadn't spilled margarita mix on those tapes in my dressing room.....*ROTF*

DLR for sure. He defines Van Halen for me. In fact the band should be called Roth. Love Sammy Hagar's work with Montrose though.

    Van Halen is Roth.........

    THAT said.........

As much as I adore Sammy, I don't think he fit in VH. BUT he stills kills vocally, and kept VH alive.

Is sorta like MA being replaced by Eddie's fucking kid..... you like or don't. I like Mr. Anthony.......... I ain't spending money to see Eddie's kid play his parts.

...and I am a huge Gary Cherone fan - most peopleknow this about me...but he didn't fit in with Van Halen. He was too refined. Van Halen were a band who liked to party. Now it's uncle Alex ,dad and baby huey.

I like both DLR and Hagar, and they both did some great stuff in the band, but I'd have to go with Sammy Hagar.

Im in the minority here but I choose SH...I do like DLR a lot and you can't dismiss his front man prowess but I prefer the vocals of Hagar just alittle bit more.

For me David Lee Roth represents Van Halen even moreso than Eddie.

My vote goes to david. Ken & I fight about this all of the time. He thinks Van Halen didn't sound like anything until SH joined up. I've listened to all the old songs today. And, my preference for musical style goes to DLR.

WOW heavy question. I have have to choose I would say Sammy. I'm not knocking Dave. Sammy kept VH alive, and gave them more success than Dave did. OU812 is their best album.

I like Sammy but Dave is the one that beats all. He is the voice to Van Halen's snarling guitar! The dude has just got it not that Sammy sucks but whenever I think of Van Halen I think of Diamond Dave.

DLR-era VH rules supreme: VH, VH2 and 1984 are some of THE greatest rock albums ever!

From the Sammy-era I really love For Unlawful Carnal... That album totally ripped!

Since then, most of Sammy's solo albums are top notch. He seems to be having the best time of his life, whereas Dave... His last truly great album dates back to the 80s.

    So in short:

    WITH Van Halen: DLR
    SOLO: Sammy

Without a shadow of a doubt, I will not even take two seconds to think about it... SAMMY OWNS! Before Sammy, the DLR years, VH was just another rock band. I read somewhere, that Van Halen was a heavy metal bands. BS. VH was never a "heavy metal" band and never will be. Once Hagar joined the fold, the songs started to gain substance. I've seen Halen with both DLR and Sammy, and the Sammy shows own. I've seen DLR and Sammy do their solo gigs, and the Sammy shows own. I even went to that co-headlining bill featuring both, and Sammy once again OWNED.
