I am saying go further back then Sweet, David Bowie etc. In my opinion it all started with three people: Little Richard, Elvis Presley, and Liberace. Most glam musicians cite Little Richard and Elvis as their influence. Their lyrics for back then were full of sleaze, Little Richard and Elvis wore make up on stage, brightly colored, even sequined clothing and I am talking about the 50's. In fact people derided both Little Richard and Elvis as "homosexual" or "girlish" that they were corrupting American manhood. Not only that they both had a flair and dripped with sleazy sexuality. Liberace's music wasn't anything like that but he too glammed it up and wore make up on stage. Any other opinions to agree or disagree? Very interested in responses.

Totally agree but if you go back further you had the old Vaudville acts and dance hall queenz of the 20'z onwardz these guyz were effectivly homosexual and transexual but because they did caberet they kinda slipped under the draconion lawz concerning this seeing as the were considered as performerz.

Oh yeah totally, I didn't even think of that. Yeah I also know Bowie, and Rex in particular were inspired by the Cabaret acts of Weimar Germany. The vaudeville acts in America also inspired some of glam that is very true!
