    Slade in Flame

    Thursday 17 January
    8:30pm - 10:00pm
    BBC4

The usual rags-to-riches-to-bitching rock 'n' roll saga is given a gritty, thoughtful and far more realistic patina by director Richard (Brimstone and Treacle) Loncraine. After forming the group Flame circa 1967 and having a monster hit, the band members suffer managerial manipulation and financial fraud before acrimoniously breaking up in this sombre account of the downsides to the music industry. Far better than the normal cash-in-on-chart-success movie vehicle, this is well written, well made and well performed by Slade and Tom Conti. The Slade hits featured include How Does It Feel and Far Far Away.

I didn't know too much about Slade, so I though I'd look up their songs on youtube:

    How Does it Feel

    Far Far Away

The lead singer looks a bit wild and crazy, doesn't he? With those wicked pork chops! I think they are cool. I like old Glam Rock. I'm a Sweet fanatic. 8)

    The Sweet rules!

In the interest of knowing as much as possible about Glam Rock, I will have to investigate Slade more. They seem really odd but cool!

Youtube is really quite excellent for Slade, including the comic Slade In Residence which is a parody of them if they lived together, performed by a select set of British comedians.

I fucking love Slade, I call them the sharp rock n' roll blade. My dad was a fan and I was exposed to them as a kid. I just got back in to them recently because of this web site. Thank you glamrock.com!

Slade are not only the best GLAM rock band
of ALL time, they are also one of the best
    ROCK bands of all time.
Anyone who considers themselves a fan of rock/glamrock/heavy rock and doesnt agree must have something wrong with them!
Its makes me sad to see fans of such utter shite like Ratt/Motley Crue/Dokken/Cinde fuckin rella etc,,
who have no idea who Slade are.
very very sad indeed that they think those twats are GLAMROCK,by playing very very weak pop metal !
The Sweet were great also, but Slade rule supreme!

I've been a great SLADE fan since I was 11, in 1973. I still think they are great. I even teach some of their stuff to kids (I teach guitar). I love that raunchy, rough sound. That's what Rock'n'Roll is all about.

    Keep on rockin

I remember Slade's first time on Midnight Special - I was hooked after that. They are the best and even though they didn't make it big in the States there are a bunch of us who love them!!!!
