Here in Dallas, TX. we have a great 80s metal cover band scene! We've got Guns 4 Roses(GNR cover), Love Gun(Kiss cover--makeup, blood, smoking guitar-Kiss), Metal Shop(all 80s metal) & Poison Cherry(mainly Posion, w/ other 80s metal as well). These are just some of the bands kicking ass around Texas.

At the last Poison Cherry show they announced they were opening for a band called Nurse Ratched on April 17th. What's kick ass about Nurse Ratched?

Nurse Ratched features members of Britny Fox, Bulletboys, Bang Tango & Keel! I thought that was pretty cool, so I checked out their set list and - :!: - what a list!

    Nurse Ratched Set List:

    Wait - White Lion
    Panama - Van Halen
Show No mercy - LA Guns
Rip & Tear - LA Guns
    Electric Gypsy - LA Guns
    Fallen Angel - Poison
    Ride The Wind - Poison
Nothin But A Good Time - Poison
Ten Seconds To Love - Motley Crue
Home Sweet Home - Motley Crue
    Dr. Feelgood - Motley Crue
Looks that Kill - Motley Crue
    Heaven - Warrant
Raise Your Hands - Bon Jovi
Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi
    Shake & Tumble - Firehouse
    It's not Love - Dokken
    Breakin The Chains - Dokken
Welcome To The Jungle - Guns N Roses
Night Train - Guns N Roses
Youth Gone Wild - Skid Row
    Round n Round - Ratt
Smooth Up In Ya - Bulletboys
For The Love Of Money - Bulletboys
    Kissin Kitty - Bulletboys
Hard As A Rock - Bulletboys
    Shake Me Awake - Bulletboys
Hell On My Heels - Bulletboys
    Forever young - Tyketto
    Wait For Me - Tyketto
Came To See You - Bang Tango

Should be a bad ass show! Any of y'all seen these guys before?!

I'm friends with guitarist bill carpenter on facebook and talked to him a couple times.that's how I found out about them.lonnie vincent from bulletboys was supposed to be in the band, but bill said there was maybe a distance problem involved cuz of where they reside.I do hope to catch a show of theirs soon tho.

    April 18, 2010.

I went to see the Nurse Ratched/Poison Cherry show at Lakewood Bar & Grill here in Dallas, TX last night!

    So how was Nurse Ratched?

    **THE GOOD:

The singer was AMAZING! He hits all those notes perfectly. And any singer that can pull off Marq Torien's vocal acrobats on the Bulletboys' "Smooth Up In Ya" has my respect!

The rest of the band was solid, too! Even though they were playing covers, you can definitely tell the difference when the pros play covers!

The highlights of the set: "Ten Seconds To Love", "Wanted Dead or Alive", "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "Breaking the Chains", "Nothing But A Good Time", "Crazy Train", "You've Got Another Thing Comin'", "Smooth Up In Ya".

    ************************************************************

    **THE BAD:

The aforementioned highlights WAS damn near the whole set!!
They took the stage at about 11:15 or so...and were off at about 12:30!!!!
    ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!!!!
ROCK SHOWS DON'T END AT 12:30! They should just be getting started!

One of the two guitarists left the stage after 4 or 5 songs, handing his guitar over to the lead singer for the Poison and Bon Jovi ballads, and stepped outside for a smoke! I'm sorry, but you couldn't stay on stage for the whole hour?! LAME!!!

The bar lost half its crowd when Poison Cherry finished their set. The Poison Cherry boys stuck around for Nurse Ratched's set. Poison Cherry's awesome drummer 'Jakk Wylde' let the Ratched drummer use his enormous kit. The Ratched singer tossed back several shots provided by Poison Cherry's singer 'Nikki Lixx' & guitarist 'D.D. Semans'.
The energy that was heavy in the room when Poison Cherry was on stage continued to fade away. Girls that were dancing up a storm earlier either sat down...or just left.

It seemed like that scene from the "Anvil" movie where one guy is rocking hard from his chair...In this case it was one drunk guy in a Dallas Cowboys jersey(with glow-stick wristbands--I shit you not)stomping about like he was in a mosh pit alone, shouting "YEAH!"

The last few folks that were sticking it out were sitting down, sobering up for their disappointed drives home. As was I.

And if that wasn't bad enough...Another band took the stage after Ratched cleared it. This band was composed of 4 thirteen/fourteen year olds playing Nirvana-esque grunge shit! (They played well. But their songwriting ability has plenty of room for improvement.)

If not for the always awesome Poison Cherry the night would have been a TOTAL WRECK. Poison Cherry headlining at Lakewood Bar & Grill is ALWAYS A BLAST! If you're ever here in Big D, I strongly recommend you check them out.

However, this night I should have gone to Wizards Sports Bar to see Mobsters of Rock -- a relatively new cover band in Dallas. They dress like mobsters, taking the stage while the "Sopranos" theme plays, and play songs from Pantera, Faith No More, Velvet Revolver, Buckcherry, Metallica, AC/DC, GNR, and Disturbed. Awesome rock show! Seen them twice already!

Live and learn as they say. If Nurse Ratched comes through your town...I hope they play more than a fucking hour for you...
