A lot of my glam metal heroes were total bad asses back in the day. Unfortunately, as time & musical tastes moved on, a lot of my heroes made some rather unfortunate career choices to keep those bills paid.
I understand it. But some of these moves made it damn near impossible for me to defend them in a Glam Rock rules debate with haters of the genre.
Cases in point:
**BRET MICHAELS and his "Rock of Love" series. Successful & kept him in the public eye, yes. But made him a joke as well(is that bandanna just his thing or is it holding his toupee on? Who hasn't heard some crap about that?).
**JANI LANE on "Celebrity Fit Club". The golden-haired front man who actually got to 'swing all night' with the Cherry Pie chick had become an overweight alcoholic who couldn't sing his own songs. I would have respected seeing that played out on a "Behind the Music" rather than "Fit Club".
**DEE SNIDER & TWISTED SISTER'S "Twisted Christmas". Turning their classic anthem "We're Not Gonna Take It" into a heavy metal "Oh Come All Ye Faithful". Tongue-in-cheek, sure, but...COME ON GUYS!!
**TOMMY LEE and his "Goes Back To School" fiasco. This is the project he was BUSY with that almost prevented the MOTLEY CRUE REUNION!! Are you kidding me, Tommy! Mick was fucking near death, dude!
These are the main offenders to me. Sure there was also Vince Neil in "The Surreal Life", Ozzy in "The Osbournes", and Sebastian Bach in "The Gilmore Girls"(yikes!). But they were acting or just being themselves while a camera looked on so they get by in my book.
How about yours?
