They were associated with a few glam bands and sometimes they wore the clothes...Plus a load of bands got shoved into that genre, just 'cos they were around at the same time...

Guns N' Roses like Faster Pussycat & L.A.Guns are considered more within the Sleaze rather than the glam circle. The sleaze bandz are alot more heavier than say poison or Warrant with lyricz featuring more about street life with almost a punk attitude running through.

youd be surprised, hollywood rose [one of axls bands before gnr] was pretty glam, they actually wrote some of their earlier songs while they were still Hollywood Rose, and yeah like starr said, appetite for destruction was one of those albums that were big in their contribution to their genre, IE appetite was considered one of the best sleeze albums, and some of the first [? correct me if im wrong]

Everyone loves to say that Guns N Roses weren't glam, and a bunch of people even cite them as the band that killed glam, but that totally isn't true. They definately began their career with glam metal looks (especially on Axl's part, but everyone else had big hair too), and they toured with bands like Motley Crue and Alice Cooper. They were constantly being called the new Motley Crue, actually. They were sleaze, which has always been considered a subgenre of glam metal. They moved away from glam, probably because it started dying as they were taking off, but their origins remain embedded in the genre and they got inspiration from the glam bands that were around then.

Like when Axl performed at the FM Tribute concert.

I've always considered G&R's music to be Hard Rock...neither Metal nor Glam.
And I distinctly remember Axl wearing pants that said "GLAM SUCKS".Posted 4 years ago # -
ha ha ..I don't remember that. He's quite the character.

i remember seeing a video interview where either slash or axl said they werent glam

I dont count them as glam, though they definetely fitted into the sleazy genre on the first 2 albums, more so on Lies which was made up from an EP made before Appetite for Destruction. And correct me if im wrong but was Slash not almost playing for Poison?

I agree with those who called GnR Sleaze instead of Glam, but musically they were not too dissimilar from Glam bands making the rounds about that same time. They were generally heavier sounding than most Glam, but there was still enough in common with Glam for them to end up being lumped in there.

- StillRockingExactly, and sleaze and glam pretty much go hand in hand together!
