It's always great to HEAR glam rock used in movies.

**Brad Pitt cruised across the desert to Poison's "Nothin'But A Good Time" in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith"(Not to mention the cameo the boys make in the recent "Hot Tub Time Machine").

**Motley Crue's "Live Wire" played during the opening action sequence of "Charlie's Angels"(providing the ONLY enjoyable moment in that piece of shit).

**KISS' "God of Thunder" was used to perfection in the opening of Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake.

**And "The Wrestler" deserves major devil horns for using music from Cinderella, Ratt, GNR & Accept; having the still-hot-as-hell Marisa Tomei play a Motley Crue loving stripper...And of course having a scene where Mickey Rourke's Randy "The Ram" character & Tomei talk about the great 80s rock and how Kurt Cobain fucked it all up! Hell yeah!!

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE STORIES OF THE GLAM MUSICIANS?!!!!

**COUNTRY MUSIC got "Coal Miner's Daughter" & "Walk The Line"
**R & B MUSIC got "What's Love Got Do With It?" & "Ray"
**ROCK MUSIC got "The Doors", "The Buddy Holly Story" & "La Bamba"
**And RAP got "8 Mile", "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" & "Notorious".

All of those are serious, dramatic films treating their subjects with RESPECT.

GLAM ROCK has films like "Rock Star" & "The Rocker". Fictional films treating glam rockers as caricatures--not artists.

There is a wealth of great stories in glam rock that, for some reason or another, Hollywood has shown no interest in getting on the big screen--instead of made-for-TV VH-1 movies like "Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story".(weak...)

What about the stories of Ozzy Osbourne(& Randy Rhoads), Ratt, Guns N Roses, KISS & Hanoi Rocks.
NOT TO MENTION the eternally stuck in development hell movie based on Motley Crue's "The Dirt"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Which, with the casting rumors I've heard, may be a blessing in disguise...

BUT STILL--What the fuck is going on when rappers 50 Cent & Eminem get a movie before the Ozzy & Motley Crue?!

The only glimmer of hope is the recent film "The Runaways". But let's face it, will enough of the young audiences that make or break today's movie trends know who The Runaways were? I grew up in the 70s and didn't hear about The Runaways until the 80s when Joan Jett's solo career took off.
Having Kristen Stewart of the "Twilight" series play Joan Jett will help the film make some money. But I don't think it will make the kind of money that gets the Hollywood execs seeing gold in the Glam Rock Hills.

I guess if we want to see any stories about glam rockers we'd better be happy with "Behind The Music"'s abbreviated tales of their careers. :(

There is Velvet Goldmine. It's about 70's glam though, and it's not an exact story, more based on the lives of people like Bowie and Iggy Pop. It's a good film, if extremely confusing. But it's true, usually biopics focus on different kinds of music.
I personally was kind of horrified to see the awful Kristen Stewart being all "rock-chick". But I suppose it's good if it brings more attention to glam/punk bands.

Oops...I gotta correct myself--I was wrong about Poison making a cameo in "Hot Tub Time Machine". The commercial gives us a quick glimpse of them...But, I saw it today, and it's actually look-a-likes! And bad ones at that!

Still the movie uses a couple of Poison tunes for the scene. But MOTLEY CRUE actually plays a bigger part in the movie. We hear at least three songs & and "Home Sweet Home" is important in the story of one character. Check it out for laughs...especially the closing credits...

To 'borntolose': I saw "Velvet Goldmine" & and you're right, it's a weird indie film. Okay at best. Another nail in the coffin of Glam Rock's movie chances. It made only $1.5 million at the box office and cost the Hollywood money men $9 million to make. No profit.

You should check out the movie "Still Crazy" about a fictional 70s band called Strange Fruit who get back together after decades apart for a reunion concert. Check out the first chapter of the movie--if you like it, the rest is avaiable on YouTube.

Yeah, it was indie to the point of being a bit ridiculous. I did think some of the music on it was quite good, though. I'll have a look at Still Crazy, music films always interest me.

Sadly enough, Runaways was only playing in select theaters so I didn't even get to see it. I mean, shit, you'd figure it would play in a college town where there is fucking indie theaters all over the place but no dice. I heard even in select theaters it bombed, but I still want to see it. Sure it will come out on Netflix or something. Can't wait to see it. I have heard a strong rumor that Johnny Depp may star in a movie based on Ozzy Osbourne, he is of course playing the main man himself. I am a little skeptical though. Your right, there is a wealth of material in glam and hair metal that isn't being used. Awesome, kick ass stories. Wrestler was great but I wasn't really impressed by Velvet Goldmine to be honest, it was a bit of a little down. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Still Crazy was awesome, me and my dad who was in the hair metal band Crucial Mercy in the 80's got to see a screening of it in LA years ago. Rocker was a bit of a rip off of School of Rock but I loved it anyways, I just wish the kid band in the movie didn't play that "indie" mainstream shit but instead played kick ass metal. There should be more glam oriented movies period.

I agree with you guys, we need a fucking glam movie! I haven't seen The Runaways movie yet but i am sure it will suck considering the actresses, but hey can't complain too much atleast younger fucks may crossover to the dark side once they see it lol. I would kill to see someone make a movie based on the dirt or something like that. oh yeay RockLibertyWarrior, old friend i know this is off subject but i thought of you and this site when i found Battle hymns at the thrift store on tape for 25 cents. Needless to say i bought it and gave my little stratus some attitude by blasting it in it. (don't laugh i ripped out the cd player and put a tape deck in it)back on the subject of glam movies, how come they made a movie about kurt no brains and they've been playing it on Fuse a lot here lately? what are people afraid of us true metal heads and don't want t make a movie that apeals to our style?

In the Friend's spinoff show, Joey, Joey's sister Gina mentions Whitesnake all the time. But I do see your point, we need a serious and good movie all about Glam.

Exactly, with movies like The Rocker, no one seems to take Glam too seriously. And all this crap Bret Michales is pulling these days..it's just sad. The closest thing we have to a documentary is The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. Also, another mention I've noticed this week, in the new episode of family guy, I believe it was called April in Quahog, "The rock drummer Tommy Lee," as peter said, made a brief appearance :P

Regarding your comment towards Friends, yes I love the show so much :p it's my favorite, i have the 10 season box set and i always watch an episode a day :P lol anyhow, back to the topic: Yea i get the point that we should be happy that glam is even mention but like i said, it seems more like a joke, and i would like to see a serious movie about it. There is also a glam Broadway show, I don't know f you guys know about it, it's called Rock of Ages.

Awesome dude :D haha we got off topic for a bit :p But yes, yes, it is always nice to meet a fellow friends fan. Other than that, I can't really think of any other Glam references. The one on family guy made me laugh. I do have high hopes for the Motley movie, just because you just have to stay positive :p Oh, I just though of one! If you ever play GTA vice city, it's set in the 80's, there is a whole radio station with a motley song, ozzy's song, quiet riot, etc...and in the game, there is a fictional, 80's rock band, who I guess could be glam, called love fist, and surprisingly, their 2 songs are really good, and it sure made the game a lot more enjoyable :P Check em out> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pk1kPD3Gsw

They need to make a honest to rock god glam movie. Wall to wall glam, 80's retro movie with a kick ass soundtrack! There is one least well known hair metal movie because it was a awful B movie made in Canada called "Rock n' Roll Nightmare". It is great stuff here is a clip where Thor gets pissed off and turns into a glam rock warrior to whip some assage on a rubber Satan. Watch the movie in full though, the soundtrack isn't bad but the movie is as yo can see from the clip!

Oh my satan, I remember seeing this clip on youtube, it's like muppets gone bad on heroin. Is this suppose to be serious or a comedy?

It was was supposed to be serious but you can't tell by watching the thing. When I watched it I laughed my ass off! Bad acting, rubber monsters, tits and ass abound. The music isn't bad at all. John Mikl Thor the star of the film was a professional body builder and wrestler who wanted to ride the hair metal wave. In fact in the late 70's he did a Slade cover but really hit his stride in the 80's. The dude is a pretty cool person, he loves his fans and still performs. He was in another B movie that escapes my mind. This is a bit unrelated but here is a vid of him in the 80's bending a piece of steel with his teeth while his band plays and his lead guitarist whips out a nasty lead solo. Enjoy!
