It's always great to HEAR glam rock used in movies.
**Brad Pitt cruised across the desert to Poison's "Nothin'But A Good Time" in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith"(Not to mention the cameo the boys make in the recent "Hot Tub Time Machine").
**Motley Crue's "Live Wire" played during the opening action sequence of "Charlie's Angels"(providing the ONLY enjoyable moment in that piece of shit).
**KISS' "God of Thunder" was used to perfection in the opening of Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake.
**And "The Wrestler" deserves major devil horns for using music from Cinderella, Ratt, GNR & Accept; having the still-hot-as-hell Marisa Tomei play a Motley Crue loving stripper...And of course having a scene where Mickey Rourke's Randy "The Ram" character & Tomei talk about the great 80s rock and how Kurt Cobain fucked it all up! Hell yeah!!
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE STORIES OF THE GLAM MUSICIANS?!!!!
**COUNTRY MUSIC got "Coal Miner's Daughter" & "Walk The Line"
**R & B MUSIC got "What's Love Got Do With It?" & "Ray"
**ROCK MUSIC got "The Doors", "The Buddy Holly Story" & "La Bamba"
**And RAP got "8 Mile", "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" & "Notorious".
All of those are serious, dramatic films treating their subjects with RESPECT.
GLAM ROCK has films like "Rock Star" & "The Rocker". Fictional films treating glam rockers as caricatures--not artists.
There is a wealth of great stories in glam rock that, for some reason or another, Hollywood has shown no interest in getting on the big screen--instead of made-for-TV VH-1 movies like "Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story".(weak...)
What about the stories of Ozzy Osbourne(& Randy Rhoads), Ratt, Guns N Roses, KISS & Hanoi Rocks.
NOT TO MENTION the eternally stuck in development hell movie based on Motley Crue's "The Dirt"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Which, with the casting rumors I've heard, may be a blessing in disguise...
BUT STILL--What the fuck is going on when rappers 50 Cent & Eminem get a movie before the Ozzy & Motley Crue?!
The only glimmer of hope is the recent film "The Runaways". But let's face it, will enough of the young audiences that make or break today's movie trends know who The Runaways were? I grew up in the 70s and didn't hear about The Runaways until the 80s when Joan Jett's solo career took off.
Having Kristen Stewart of the "Twilight" series play Joan Jett will help the film make some money. But I don't think it will make the kind of money that gets the Hollywood execs seeing gold in the Glam Rock Hills.
I guess if we want to see any stories about glam rockers we'd better be happy with "Behind The Music"'s abbreviated tales of their careers.
