"GAY L.A. METAL" - Dave Mustaine.

The infamous phrase from the most bitter rocker. I've seen him in a few interviews explaining that Glam stands for Gay L.A. Metal with the condescension of an aristocrat talking about lowly minorities. His eyes always half shut like he's trying to discreetly squeeze a fart out. WHAT A DICK! I think Metallica gave him the boot because of the enormous asshole he is...it had nothing to do with his addiction...

He calls Glam gay then sits on a couch crying about how Ulrich and Hetfield really hurt him years ago in the Metallica doc "Some Kind Of Monster". Hell, Dave, it's not like your music career went nowhere. You did okay for yourself...you know, with that whole Megadeth thing...? GET OVER IT! YOU'RE A RICH ROCKSTAR!!

Speaking of Lars Ulrich: This little prick actually BRAGGED about being on the Sunset Strip in the 80s, seeing Nikki Sixx across the street in full glam gear and drunkenly calling out, "Motley Crue sucks!" Sixx of course came charging after Lars who took off running like the little wuss that he is. Sixx couldn't catch him because he was wearing platform boots. Lars thought it was funny that a guy in glam gear couldn't catch him. I think it's funnier that Mr. Tough-Thrasher RAN from a guy in makeup and platform boots!

NIKKI SIXX would have kicked his ass up and down the Strip!

Metallica always considered glam rockers "posers". But Glam is still glam. Meanwhile Metallica and Megadeth just blend in with all the other metal bands of today. To me they're the "posers" now, conforming instead of sticking with what always worked. ("St. Anger" Sucked!!)

I never liked Megadeth(Mustaine's got the worst voice), and I haven't given a squirt of piss about Metallica since I saw what a bunch of pricks Lars & James are in "Some Kind of Monster"(I feel bad for Kirk H. trapped with the EGO TWINS). Rock on KIRK. Don't let Lars and James convince you that guitar solos aren't cool anymore...!

FOR BEING THE BIGGEST ALPHA-MALE ASSHOLES: DAVE MUSTAINE, LARS ULRICH & JAMES HETFIELD...FUCK YOU!

One last thing...GLAM stands for GREAT L.A. METAL!!!

"Glam has absolutely nothing to do with LA or metal."- GlennJB

The kids in the UK class the likes of Razorlight, Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Kings Of Leon as "Rock n'Roll". I don't agree at all, I would call them "Indie" or "Alternative".

Anyway it just goes to show that everyone has their own opinion when it comes to categorizing music. Some are historically correct and others just... well wrong!

With Glam we'll always have the 70s (Glam Rock) vs 80s (Glam Metal) debate. Like I've said before, each new generation has trouble accepting change and that includes me!

I don't mind Metallica or Megadeth as I've always liked thrash metal but there has been points in each of those two bands careers where I've disagreed with their attitude or musical direction.

Metallica deployed a good business model to stay alive otherwise they would have died with most of the glam and thrash metal bands of the 80s.

Yeah, I agree, but the genre was named in England in the early 70s, where Los Angeles and heavy metal just didn't apply. That acronym (or backronym) doesn't work on any level, not just cos of the gay bit.

I would say in some ways glam dudes are the straightest guys ever... not that being gay is a bad thing (lord knows bisexual lil' ol' me has nothing bad to say about my many girl/girl experiences, and guy on guy is just bloody hot) but I think it takes a guy who's pretty secure in his masculinity to doll up like that, sides wearing platforms may slow you down, but they're great for skull stompin'

Its sad that Dave Mustaine thinks its okay to use hate speech.....and I'm a Megadeth fan.....but its unconscionable for anyone to call something they dislike or think is wrong,as "gay".

If someone used the N word they'd get pounced apon.

I don't see either term as okay.

That said, yeah the scene appeared to be more open minded than it was.I was on the Strip,at least after 1985....

Dave Mustanes a bloody idiot, though. During a gig in Belfast, during the 80s - when the troubles were ongoing as thick as ever - he said he completely agreed with the IRA.

    !!!

He had to leave in an armoured car, LOL!

I saw Megadeth on their tour with Testament and Judas Priest, too, in Belfast again - its the first time Megadeth have been here since. Dave couldn't even look at us!!! It was hilarious.

I remember Dave getting practically laughed ofstage when he was at the "open to the public" charity concert that culminated the film Rock Star.

These days I can hardly find anyone in the rock scene that takes him seriously anymore, and thats sad.He has talent.

He still gets music gear endorsements. But the hate speech is not good.Just like,I'll never get over when Sebastian Back wore that shirt "AIDSKILS FAGS DEAD".

WHAT was he thinking. And yet to think,Rob Halford still talked to him.

Methinks, more people in the public eye, should take a deep breath and maybe sober up a bit before making public statements ;-)

Yeah, he's talented, but no one wants to know him. The music world is different than others, aint it? If your an asshat, no matter how good you really are, no one is ready to admit it, because your an asshat :P

And; was Seb serious when he wore that? It doesn't sound like a very serious shirt, LOL. I mean, I've been to 4chan willingly, and I'm not a homophobic elitist murderous racist. :P

4chan being a famous internet hate site, amongst other things, lol.

I never heard of 4chan before...

The only hate site I am familiar with (and THIS,only by accident),is one called Vanguard News which is a white supremacist site.

And I know that many political sites ,messageboards etc,on the Left and the Right have members that use hate speech since so many of the "wedge issues" are racially or lifestyle-bigotry oriented under the guise of religion.....

Man I really wish more folks could get there points across without resorting to bigotry.Barring that,I wish the bigotry did not exist PERIOD.

    Yeah, Bigrotry does suck...

Thing is, it normally doesnt get the point accross, does it? Its just hurtful. Which aint helpful, heh. But thats the world, aint it?

Thats one of the philosiphies I grew up with, really. You cant expect people to be nice, but ya may avoid listening to 'em (and give as good as you get if it takes your fancy), and just have fun while your here :D

Hell yeh were gay, were happier than all the thrash guys (i do like thrash), we make the most kick ass music ever, we look the coolest (and u can do as much or little as u please), we can have fun in whatever way floats our boat, and if your interested u can hitch a ride and if you don't you don't have to. I love megadeth but Dave is just being douchy. I think that glams commercial success lead to many Metalheads in general being territorial/assholely. Tigertailz said that they loved Metallica(covered them as well) and that when they were growing up it was like hey u like van halen cool u like sabbath cool u like maiden cool u like lizzy cool but when we (tigertailz) grew up its like O u like that glam stuff, o u like thrash stuff, o u like power stuff ehhh. Perhaps it simply comes down to the social metalheads. Most "social" metalheads (those who get into it for the communal reasons as much as likeing the music) are usually the ones who shout "GLAM IS GAY" most metalheads who are really into the music even if they don't like glam can appriciate it and say it takes a true metalhead to acknowlege glam

Yeah I saw that "Glam is gay" Mustaine thing on Decline.. part 2. The funny thing is when anybody refers to "hair metal" they lump Metallica and Megadeth in with Poison and Motley Crue. I am a fan of both Metallica and Megadeth, as well as Poison and Crue too. I like whatever floats my boat, hell I know all of you have suffered through my grunge tirades, but if there is a good grunge song, hell I'll like it (two grunge bands I like:Alice in Chains and Soundgarden). I find this bitching between bands funny, shit the glam bands used to rag on each other constantly. Bigotry sucks I agree, but as long as there are human beings with different opinions, different upbringings, different thoughts etc. Bigotry will never go away, even if there was draconian speech laws which I am against, there would still be Bigotry. When I saw that interview and Sabo with that "AIDs Kills Fags Dead" Shirt it made me sick to my stomach. It took me five years to bring myself to listen to Skid Row again. If the music kicks ass the rock stars can have their bitching, the egos and money. Just keep on inspiring and kicking my ass!

Didnt Mustaine once say he liked it when Tom Araya sucked his dick? To which Araya responded by calling Dave a homo? Now they're touring together again in American Carnage? Didn't Megadeth make an Alice Cooper (Glam artist) cover? Wow, all the hypocrisy. Not to mention, Megadeth, Metallica, even Slayer are ALL from L.A county. Dave is talented, no denying that, but hes an idiot who whines like a little bitch. They hated Glam for being so commercial and mainstream, well thats funny since Metallica ended up being the most mainstream Metal band in the history of the genre. Megadeth also tried to go for a more mainstream sound, but unlike Metallica they failed at it, and once again were one step behind Metallica. I know, its Sad But True.

Now that I got the "expanded" cable on my TV,I'm really digging VH1 Classic. It has SO much metal and,yes by extension, glam programming on it.

I saw a special featuring Dave Mustaine the other day.He was not acting too douch-ey.

BTW there is occasionally a bit of glam programming on LOGO if you're not afraid of watching a gay channel.

LOGO is owned by Viacom/MTV Networks,so its slick and polished and it can be a guity pleasure....

I LOL'd when you said there was Glam Programming on a gay channel. I dont know what my reaction to that is!!!

There werent any homosexual glam artists, were there? Freddie Mercury from Queen, but I dont really think they're Glam. Good, but not Glam, you know? I think the last one was actually our Marc Bolan, and he was bi. So...

I dont see Dave Mustane gashing out Judas Priest!
Although, it wouldn't work, if thats the way he talks.

    'Rob Halfords gay!'
    'Yep...'
    '...'
    'So uh. How s'kids?'
'Doing alright, our little Rachel caught cold the other day...'
    'Yeah?'
'Gave her a few days off school, you know, to recover.'
    'Ahh, yeah. She better?'
    'Getting better.'
    'Alright, well, I'll cya, mate.'
    'Yeah, cya Dave!'

    Or, alternate ending;

'MY DAUGHTERZ NEVER GET SIKK, I'M A FUKKEN LEGENNNNNNND'

On the scene (sunset strip scene) I heard that David Lee Roth was bi but the only time I ever saw him in person clubbin (the Cathouse and The Rainbow) he had 2 huuge black bodyguards and he was flanked by 3 or 4 normal lookin' big bosomed tanned very little makeup, ladies.

As to how many of other than totally staight were glam, hard to say, depends too on who you wanna consider glam...

I was watching that sam dunn film A Headbangers Journey and when it came to glam, dee snider spoke.he said something which it took me just a moment to realize.he was talking about how fucked up us guy glam fans were.about how messed up it is for a guy to want to watch a bunch of guys in drag play music.and how we r straight but there's something fucked up about that whole idea that we r attracted to that sort of thing.and I laughed for a sec. Cuz I'm no doubt about it straight.100%.but I enjoy watching guys dressed as girls playing metal.its just the whole idea to me.that we r so manly, that we can do that sort of thing, like showing off how manly we r.and I think wat mustaine was saying,is that typically, guys shouldn't do that.I don't hate him for saying that.still love megadeth and always will.but he's just like everyone else in the world that thinks that guys shouldn't dress as girls.the difference is,is that he came out and said it whereas everyone else is thinking it.its just opinion, that's all.so we shouldn't all hate him.unless of course ud befriend anyone who's close to u who doesn't like glam

Here's the clip of that little fucker Lars boasting about runnin like a pussy.

Also ran into this video. Listen to how ridiculous the thrashers sound, and the lame reasons for hating glam rockers. Pathetic.

Oh gawd, those thrash bands sure act tough. "Killing posers", pounding a couple glam ppl my ass. They dressed girly but they'd beat the crap out of these thrashers any day. Seriously, the thrashers at my school aren't that bad, they get along with me perfectly well but most of them are so fuckin nerdy. They put this tough guy image out but they're not tough at all, they're those kids that hang out isolated from everyone else that get made fun of by all the other groups. Not to sound cocky or anything but, i've never met a "hip" thrasher before, they're all geeky. I don't hate thrash metal or anything, im a huge Overkill, Anthrax and Metal Church fan, but Thrash(ers), they're nerdy and so NOT tough like they pretend to be. Most Glam bands never even claimed to be Metal in the first place, so I don't see how that makes them "posers". I listen to Metal, but I don't claim to be a metalhead.
