Discharge are best known as a hardcore punk band, who began to incorporate metal influences into their sound in the early 80s, paving the way for a lot of the crossover thrash acts the followed a few years later.
In 1986, in a move comparable to Celtic Frost's 'Cold Lake', they released an album entitled 'Grave New World'.
This was a massive departure from their previous work.
The tour was a let down and the band were booed and bottled off stage and this led to the band calling it quits for a few years.
Which is too bad, because I don't think the album deserved the backlash it got. Chock full of great riffs and solos all quite tastefully done. The lyrics aren't what you'd call glam, but the vocal delivery is kinda sleaze metallish. Cal (the lead singer) isn't a great singer- it can sometimes be hard to decipher some of the lyrics.
