    Hmm...nice thread.

    Some of my favorites include:

    Freddie Mercury
    King Diamond
    Rob Halford
    Ronnie James Dio
    David Lee Roth

The list could go on, but there's 5 I really like.

metalrulesall : This is a suggestion but I encourage you to take it. When starting this type of thread where you are seeking opinion on a topic, it's better value all round if you set up a poll as well.

It's not hard to do. Here are the instructions on how to set up a POLL in a thread

Okay, so we're talking best vocalist not best frontman, right. Because even though I love them, Steve Pearcy, Vince Neil, Brett Michaels, Taime Downe, Dave Lee Roth and a host of others were and still are pretty 'average' vocalists - but awesome showmen and performers.

Best Vocalists for me would be
    Michael Sweet (Stryper)
    Paul Stanley
    Freddy Mercury
    Sebastian Bach

Let me give this a go as well:

    Sebastian Bach
    Freddie Mercury
    Alice Cooper
    Bon Scott

Those are the top 4 for me, but there's many others I like as well.

Funny enough, only 2 of those singers are still around to sing today! And Bach has the better vocal range soooo...

Best vocalist...as opposed to...best frontman - would be Brad Delp.
He had a great set of pipes on him.

    My favorite vocalists are;

    Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)
    Don Dokken (Dokken)
    David Coverdale (Whitesnake)
    Mike Matijevic (Steelheart)

There are so many other great ones though!

I suppose then, Metalrulesall, Queen sold multi millions of albums because Freddie couldn't sing. I think you should re-think that.

I still think one of the greatest vocalists in rock history is Brad Delp, from Boston.

    Opinion's are like...........ever heard that before? :)

There are so many that are greats, that have passed or still around we will never forget. The best way I can explain how I am with picking my fav's, is if I can get a chill from someone singing, that it really touched me, thats how I know. :)

I think I need to go with Bowie on this one. I have seen more females fall for his voice than any other, or atleast tied along with Coverdale & Bach.

Are we looking at best glam vocalist, best metal vocalist, best '70s vocalist, best '80s vocalist, best rock vocalist, best tenor, best opera singer...this could be more specific.

Best rock vocalist: Brad Delp (best tenor too)
Best glam vocalist: Freddie Mercury (best '70s too)
    Best '80s vocalist: Joe Elliott
    Best opera singer : Pavarotti
    Best metal vocalist: Kevin DuBrow
    Best all-around vocalist: Steven Pearcy

So, those are MY votes...hope I didn't leave anyone out ;)

i can never really think on these...i think there's no-one like Freddie Mercury...oh, speak of the devil; "Bohemian Rhapsody" is now playing...lol...but i also think that Brian Connolly had smoothest velvet voice before that bastard kicked his throat in in 74...and it was ok..up till the booze and smokes got to it...as for Bowie...he was a kiss ass for sure.

There will never be anyone with as much stage presence as Freddie Mercury. That man had glam down to a science!
