I picked a random year and decided to run with it, to see what I could find out in relation to glam rock for all to share. :) This crazy site I found with tons of info, so I had to let you all know about it. Oddly its a 2 years before my mate was born, so I can razz him for this too!

    Sweet - Teenage Rampage
    Mud - Tiger Feet
Alice Cooper - Teenage Lament '74
Suzi Quatro - Devil Gate Drive
Marc Bolan - Teenage Dream (Note first solo hit..)
    Alvin Stardust - Jealous Mind
    David Bowie - Rebel Rebel
    [censored]
    Barry Blue- School Love
Slade - Everyday (First Slade Ballad.. beginning of the end..)
Mud - The Cat Crept In
Mott The Hoople - The Golden Age Of Rock'n'Roll

    Rubettes - Sugar Baby Love
Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us
    Bay City Rollers - Shang-a-Lang
    Alvin Stardust - Red Dress
    Cockney Rebel - Judy Teen
    [censored]
Cozy Powell - The Man In Black
Arrows - A Touch Too Much
    Slade - Bangin' Man
    Suzi Quatro - Too Big
    Sweet - The Six Teens
    Rubettes - Tonight
    Sparks - Amateur Hour
    Mud - Rocket
The Glitter Band - Just For You
Cozy Powell - Na Na Na
Bay City Rollers - Summer Love Sensation
    Showaddywaddy - Rock'n'Roll Lady
    Cockney Rebel - Mr Soft
David Bowie - Knock On Wood
Alvin Stardust - You You You
    Slade - Far Far Away
Glitter Band - Lets get Together Again
Elton John - The Bitch Is Back
David Essex - Gonna Make You A Star
Sparks - Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth
Suzi Quatro - The Wild One
    Rubettes - Juke Box Jive
    [censored]
    Hello - Tell Him
    Mud - Lonely This Christmas

A couple of these I have found online, by personal option of the web masters sites, are considered "Fake Glam", if any, who do you think would fit that?

I was 13 in 1974. Little teenage nightmare.

Damn Niki, that sure is an interesting list. But methinks the moderator needs to edit it some because it contains a certain pedophile that we aren't supposed to promote.

Glamster, where the fuck are you when we needs you?

That's a great list! WoW! the memories of childhood and trying to beg my Mom & Dad to buy those records for me!

Motleyguy, whatever GG has made of his life now, and we should no way condone it, it's difficult to ignore the impact he had in the 70's on glam and on the charts. He should be remembered for his fantastic contributions to music and the developmnt of glam rock, and not for his recent exploits.

Stanley, you make some very good points.

Not only are your points good but they are correct and I agree with them.

You don't know me but let me tell you that I'm the first to forgive someone for their transgressions.

But the thing that I struggle with this particular guy is that he did it, was sentenced, did his time. Here's the problem I got with it. He then went out and committed even worse crimes. He went to a different country thinking he can get away with it there.

GG's contribution can't be denied however it can be forfeited and should be forfeited.

My opinion is this, if he had not existed then Glam would have occurred. The questions is, would have glam been as big without him? I think so.

Sometimes you just have to put our future first and it's the children that are the future. The past becomes irrelevant and the evil deeds should be forgotten and along with the crimes, the evil doers as well.

That's my 2 cents before I edit the SOB out.

Yeah, I think so too. Glam rock would have been just as much fun. Thanks, glamster.

Sorry for that post then, can an Admin help me out here? I was not trying to promote anyone bad, just trying to be accurate, and show the good and the bad side. When we start to omit history, we start to forget - thats just how I see some stuff, sorry for this mistake, wont happen again. :)

    Hey Niki...
I actually didn't know about that wicked awful thing that happened regarding that...so you kind of helped me out there. Now I know what I didn't know before, as sick and twisted as it may be...

Good list, but that site is far too limited...

Regarding the 'fake glam' thing, I think they mean stuff like BCR, Alvin, Kenny etc., the manufactured, pop, band-wagon-jump stuff.

    the manufactured, pop, band-wagon-jump stuff.

GlennJB, that what all the early Sweet stuff was about. They called it bubblegum pop and it was what their songwrites Chinn/Chapman and their manager Phil Wainman deliberately wanted them to sound like.

It seems that the early 70s in the UK was all about standing out of the crowd that were so Stones influences that it was all sounding the same.

Manufactured pop has been a part of life ever since.

Wow, not a half bad list at all.

Not sure how many of those were true glam, but hey it was 1974!!!

    Also...Alice Cooper!!!

I grew up listening to Alice Cooper, and I still listen to him.

Not really glam, but it laid the foundation for Shock Rock along with Kiss to some extent.

Hi StillRocking, we'll claim them to be our own because they don't get up on stage like they walked in off the street, saw some instruments and said "let's play". eg. Status Quo.

Glam is out of the ordinary, flamboyant to the outrageous. Alice Cooper fits that mold too.

    Peace and good tidings :-)

The Sweet started really catching my attention with "Little Willy". I used to hang out at the local teen center and when that came on the radio I used to blast it.

With "Ballroom Blitz" I used to sing along with the "Steve Priest" part of the song.

i was nowhere near existence...minus 15 years old...my folks hadn't even met...which is probably just as well...in my opinion though..as a person...and not as a sweet fan...TR should have been UK no. 1 over Tiger Feet...because TF is a nice party tune...but TR is fighting for teens...and since they were the people buying the records for the most part. maybe i'm wrong..w/e.

There's a shitload missing from the list, mainly cos they only lists songs that were hits.

Love the list. And I actually loved the Bay City Rollers. I was into the plaid fad. Of course I was just a kid back then, just figuring out what I liked as opposed to listening to my parents musical tastes.

That is a fantastic list of bands but the band most associated with glam/sleaze rock from that year is missing. New York Dolls
