There are a few songs I like in today's music, but I couldn't tell you anything about the groups or solo artists of today. The 80's music will always be the best there's ever been and that's all I'll ever listen to. To me, nothing else is worth listening to.

i know all about that...some kid from my school saw me watching Wig Wam Bam on the internet...and totally freaked when i said that not only was this from the 70s and i liked it but i like things as far back as the 30s....i told him i liked todays stuff a bit too...so what does he do??...he puts me on the spot...and i didn't know who to mention because i have no idea who's in the charts...but i could tell you that Wig Wam Bam went into UK charts on Friday 14th September 1972 at number 4...work that out!!!

Let him freak out. We all know we're special for appreciating the classics and not gripping on to the first grunge band we see (not that grunge bands are all bad...I like some of Pearl Jam and I like most of Nickelback...)

We can't live in a bubble in the 80's folks :) Sure I miss the bands of the 80's but as the world evolves, so does music. I totally disagree on the broad statement this thread makes. Todays music doesn't all suck, a lot of it might and what I like you might not but I can find just as much stuff to get into out of todays artists as I can by pulling out my 80's collection.

we never said it did... we just said that some of it does...well i did anyway....and that more sucks now than it used to...plus....i will continue to live in my 70s bubble because i prefer it, to my cruel facing of reality.

Two things: We CAN live in a bubble. It's comforting :)
Another thing: A lot of new music is really good talent. I can SO live without rap, hip-hop and hardore though.

i bring news that there is hope for the children of today...not much...but there is hope....in the last few weeks; the 16-19 year olds that attend my school...have played some real decent stuff on the CD player...including Wizzard, Slade, Sweet and Bon Jovi.

i couldn't have said it better myself! i agree 100%, if you actually sit down and listen to the lyrics in some of the new music, it's just ridiculous, they're singing about umbrellas, and "bitches and hoes" and bling this bling that, give me a break, that's not worth anything, real musicians put feeling and thought into their music, you don't see that anymore these days and it's a shame because music is my passion and it's become just like everything else......all about making money for nothing

Actually Lindsaym84 you did say it better and alot more intelligently by introducing bling into the discussion.

    The 80s were bling-free times.

Today's mainstream music does suck. On one end of spectrum is rap and R&B playing the same old annoying "a so gangsta, I shot ya'll" bullshit, and on the other end of the spectrum is pop punk, metalcore, scene music which is just whiny, and when they're not whining about one thing or another, the'll just scream random "ROOOOOR RRAAAARRRR RAAWWRR!!!1!111" bullshit. And the fans of both types of music are douches too. Whether they're wiggers or scene kids skater kids, they're all douchebags to me.

However, there still is good music today, it's just not popular anymore.

"Music doesnt suck, maybe the mainstream these days and the manufactured crap and pop idol idiots but there are some great bands out there. You just need to look alot harder than you used to. Theres even some great glam/sleaze bands such as crashdiet and hardcore superstar. Myspace and Amazon.com are great for finding new bands, some with labels and some are just local bands but unless people start looking for them and demanding them there not going to get very far. Its all great sitting back and listing to the old vinyl and reminising, but those days are pretty much gone. maybe its time to change it?"
    - L-JGlitter

    I totally agree.
I bless the hour when I finally decided to get up from my seat and discover new bands in the genre. It was a great surprise to find bands like Crashdiet, Crazy Lixx, JackViper, Gemini Five, Faithfull, The Fire, Vains of Jenna, Coma City, Crackhouse...
All they need is some support to be able to keep the genre alive.

@ Starr76: Love The 69 Eyes..... as I do Evergrey and BLS (Black Label Society). The Backyard babies are cool, too, but I have grown fond of Avenged Sevenfold, Audioslave, and COC (Corrorsion Of Conformity).

Shoot, I ain't shy..... I turned 50 this year, and refuse to close my mind completely....... even though I am not fond of country (it ain't f*cking country, either, to me... the shit is "pop country"..... ugh!) and really don't care for the so-called rap/R&B being put out. No soul.

People get all surprised when I list my #1 genre as metal. Of course, I'm a tad spoiled being I'm old enough to have been LUCKY enough to watch it all unfold as it is today.

And JerseyBoy is right.... bubbles may be safe, but there is a lot to discover. We just have to be willing to bust that bubble, and check it out.

    Hi LadyPeterbilt,

You're allowed to say fuck or any derivative of fuck, like fucking, fucker and even fucked. You can use fuck or it's derivatives in phrases too like "It's fucked when you're over your buddies house and his wife listens to fucking Justin Timberfag.

When the site started, folks were cautious not to use bad language when meant that people like me had to rely on these fucking things :-) ;-) :-( to better express ourselves. Since then we figured, fuck it, lets say whatever the fuck we want....then everything became more meaningful.

    Have a nice day :-)

Seriously? And the 80's weren't filled with the same thing? And the lyrics from our generation had such deep and meaningfull songs like Cherry Pie, Talk dirty to me, Pour some sugar on me? Yeah, the comparison is like night and day. Get real, music today is not more retarded than music of yesterday. Do you really think all those 80's bands did it for the passion of music? No, the did it to get so they could afford all the booze and drugs they wanted and to get laid every fucking night. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this genre and always will, but it pisses me off to hear someone try to compare one generation to another and not make any valid points.

I remember the days I loved the radio, now it sits here like a big ass paper weight. I am a little lucky on some sides though. I have kids, so they will understand all about music, from the start to the end. Also my sisters kids still understand glam and rock, so their kids will do the same.

One kid at a time......... :)

lol...tell me about it...i switch my radio on sometimes in the hope that it will play something decent and i'm disappointed each time....there's some kids out there know the real score when it comes to music..and some that just don't realise that they do like it...maybe one day there'll be a glam utopia..lol.

This is going to sound weird, but: it may suck, but it's good.

I mean, I don't like 99.9% of music these days. I'm a punk rocker, a rock n roller, and I always will be. But you can't deny, some of these bands are good at what they do.

I mean, there are good rappers out there, and good death-black-screamo-thrash metal bands out there. Just because I don't like rap or death-black-screamo-thrash metal doesn't mean they aren't good.

What I REALLY hate, are the bands who are obviously in it to make a quick buck; it's so sad and degrading for the music industry itself.

And at the end of the day, I feel sorry for the kids these days. I got lucky, I discovered something better, but most of these kids, they're brainwashed into thinking that today's music is all there is. Poor kids.
